So ok we get in FDB he may well bring with him Overmars, Bergkamp and stam. TV making a lot of the fact that 2 are former Gooners. However Bergkamp always stated as a kid he was a spurs fan. Not sure it all matters as long as they bring success and help to silence them all down at the library finally. Any thoughts?

ant333

1.) He may of been a hoddle/spurs fan when younger but there is no way bergkamp will go anywhere near our club.
He has recently only just seen a bronze statue of himself unveiled at the library.
Imagine a spurs coach in bronze outside their stadium?
That would certainly put George Graham's cannon patio to shame.

ant333

1.) Yes; janitor.

2.) Or tea lady!

the fact that Sherwood does not feel Sandro is good enough for the Spurs squad says more about him as a manager. No Idea. Soldado, Sandro. Lamela. Capoue, hope will all get more of a crack next season. Although I am all for youngsters coming through which I hope will continue in the Europa league and fa cups. This fascination with playing a high defensive line needs to end and the best players need to be playing in positions that are to their strength. The style of play also has to the same rather than just hitting the ball from distance. Naughton, Rose, Daws, Lennon have to go in the summer but the rest of the squad I would persevere with with additions, most noticibly LB and CB.

ant333

1.) Sandro hasn't been good enough since he returned from injury, I don't think that is debatable. But that said I don't think leaving him out of the match day squad is going to motivate him to stay either or get him fit enough to regain his form.

2.) Who has been good enough except Eriksen and Lloris! We have a squad that needs a manager to lead them, not slag them off!

Appoint Pochittino or De Boer then stick with them for at least 3-5 yreas to get some stability into the club. Let them have a greater input into transfers or get Baldini out too. Let them stand or fall on players the want. Levy to concentrate on stadium and let manager do his job unhindered.

ant333

1.) I'd really love to know what evidence people have that transfers over the last few years (unrealistic targets aside) have not been the choice of the manager.

And if you say 'the papers' then please let me know where they got their information. My view is still that the managers did have a lot of choice. The players bought over the summer were very AVB types of players, and correspond to things he wanted to do and requested (2 players in each position, a central double pivot, ball playing defenders, and inverted wingers). Sherwood himself said that Levy offered him the chance to sign players in January and Sherwood declined saying how good the players he had were.

I've not seen a single piece of evidence to the contrary, just people's personal opinions about the DoF position.

So please, if you have evidence then share it.

2.) Sorry if I made that sound if I was suggesting manager doesn't have a say in signings. Truth is no one knows and there is never any clarification on that. Club should tell us how things are structured and then stick to it. D of F then none then another. Thought levy realised with commoli that D of F don't work to well.

3.) The fact is, most teams would have loved nearly all those players, they don't go bad overnight . Therefore, why can't the managers motivate them to play? It seems that both AVB and TS has a problem with these players!1

4.) Ant, why should the club come out and clarify anything with the fans? We are only customers to the club nothing more. You don't expect other big company's to explain themselves do you?

5.) You would if it was failing and you were pumping money in to it.

6.) I don't think ENIC are pumping money in. Look at our net transfer spend, not just for last year but the 4 years before it.

7.) We pump money into all different types of company's and don't expect an explanation as to what is going on. Did you request answers when HMV went into administration or when woolworths went bust?
The people who get to ask the questions have money invested in the club and a hell of a lot of it, the others are just funding a business the same as any other company. It's a sad truth but a truth nonetheless.
All clubs love fans to have the illusion it's like it used to be and it's all for the fans because it means you part with your cash easier.
Don't get me wrong I wish it was like it was back in the old days but unfortunately clubs are a business first and the rest follows.

8.) Sorry Spurs1985 but that is rubbish, you go to a retailer, buy a product and pretty much get what you pay for, and you're protected by a Sale of Goods Act if not.
A football club is an institution that exists mainly due to fans (at all levels) and certainly (in the hugely commercialised manner in which it is run today) definitely relies on those supporters parting with cash ongoing; tickets, memberships, merchandise, TV subscriptions etc etc.
The two are not comparable in that respect and if they were, your point is flawed because what happened to those two businesses? They went pop, ultimately because they did not deliver what customers wanted and so their sales dropped and losses became unsustainable - they stopped offering enough of what people wanted to buy.

9.) And if the club doesn't provide want the fans want to buy . how long before there are empty seats at the Lane.

The library had empty seats scattered throughout last night for the game against wet spam . You think that makes the business people pay attention . you bet it does.

10.) Sorry Simmo but it's not utter rubbish you may disagree with it but there are many truths in what I wrote.
So when you go to a spurs game do you not get to see a football match? That's what they are offering and you buy it so you get what you paid for, same as with a retailer as you said.

I never said the club doesn't rely on their fans for the business to run same as a retailer needs it's customers to survive.

My argument isn't flawed in the way that the reason HMV went into administration was purely down to new age shopping and ability to download music straight from home also being able to get DVDs delivered to your house. Add on top of that how expensive HMV is and you get a company in trouble.

As with us fans we don't care on a whole how ridiculously priced things become we just blindly pay it. That is the illusion every club loves and any business will try to achieve.

All that said I don't want to create any drama from this I was just asking the question as to why anybody thinks the club need to explain themselves because unless all of the millions of fans stop supporting, then I can't see the club going into a panic.

11.) Spurs1985
I'm bit being dramatic and despite using the word rubbish do not mean to be offensive. I don't disagree with various points you make in a factual sense but the comparison of the two purchases and business models is way apart. You don 't have an emotive lifelong bond with a retailer like you would your football club and, your transactional purchase of a DVD or other item is a one-off every team you buy. Football, despite the owners and investors being in control, is not the same - yes you buy a football match in simple terms but how many of us do that who would go and buy another football match down the road if we don't like the one Spurs sell us? Yes we all pay the money, blindly if we can afford it but, does that excuse a club to take that for granted and leave fans disillusioned, disappointed and left angry or upset no matter what? Even if they just don't care about that at all, it is not conducive to success to alienate your fans (customers) but it can definitely be a catalyst to massive failure. How many of us would blindly pay more and more for bottom-half football with no prospect of more?

12.) Simmo,
First of I want to say I took no offence from your post and understand that "posting" can sometimes read different than it's meant. So no harm done and I appreciate you explaining that.
I do know the comparisons are far fetched but felt it was the easiest way to explain my point as I couldn't think of another way without confusing it.
You are right though football clubs offer something which you can't buy and in many walks of life isn't attached to a purchase (ie love for family or friends) in which you will blindly do anything you can to help and support them.
But doesn't mean the club should explain their actions just because we choose to help and support them and that was my main point.
Anyway it's been an interesting discussion and look forward to many more with yourself as I do enjoy reading the majority of what you write. Keep it up fella and let's keep blindly supporting our team till the end of the season lol.
Much love.

13.) It's definitely been blind loyalty this season mate. All the best to you.

Think we should start giving ryan frericks and alex Pritchard a run out because I can't see them doing any worse than others. Cup games next season and Europa if we make that. Coulibaly and coulthisrt should be given a run out too. Youth policy at everton and Southampton are working well we need to do the same.

I think De Boer is a better choice, a winner at every level as a player and a winner as a manager. Levy will go for Poch, which could be another one of his long line of mistakes.

We need talent like Shawcross or Jagielka at the back or Subotic. We need good LB like Shaw or Scmelzer from Dortmund. I would let walker go and go for Coleman at Everton. Midfield we need someone like Lallana who hurts teams. I would keep Soldado as he will come good. I would give Lamela another season but agree the rest can go. I'd also look toward Weiman from Villa.

Any opinions?

Ant

Apparently Lamela has tweeted stated his intention to stay. I for one am glad to here this and hope he fullfills his potential

I would prefer we went for Shawcross and Subotic in the centre would love coleman at right back walker is a bit of a liability, then a good LB though not sure who. I wouldn't mind Micah Richards Down the lane either along with Rodwell. Get a bit of English back in the side.

Bergkamp was a spurs fan as a kid. But people like him are pro's and would be committed to whoever they work for. Stam would also come and he was a united man but I am sure it wouldn't matter. Fact is If FDB would come and his staff would follow I think we would reap big rewards. Poch is still untested, just one good season so far.

Would prefer De Boer, a winner at player level on all levels and a winner as a manager. Also would keep Eriksen and Jan happy, and would get total respect of players because of his record as a player and a manager
