If as it looks Walker is on his way someplace else, along with a RB what other positions would you realistically try to upgrade.

That said the other 2 I fear likely to be leaving are Toby and Eriksen - which if that happens I don't see us overhauling the starting xi much more.

Yellow-card

1.) 08 May 2017 11:39:01
Only Walker has been seriously linked, and from recent form it look like Trippier is surpassing him.

If we lose Alderwiereld then I think we are in trouble as he is the rock at the back. His synergy with Vertonghen is getting better and better, and Levy has to ensure we keep both.

Eriksen is an amazing player and we would massively regret selling him. Involved in everything and one that can look even better if he took more shots.

It is all about money mind you. If a club offers £60m for Alderwiereld then I fear Levy will sell. The problem we would face is player like Mawson or Keane are being touted at £30m these days and they are a big drop from Toby level.

We need stars not average talent to push some of our first XI onto the bench. I listed a few top prospects in my article below. Time to stop under investing and realising our potential. Levy has banked millions in the last 7 years, time to spend a few quid from billionaire Joe.

Spurs fans don't want to keep hearing we are selling a top player and buying some reasonable or potential replacement. We deserve a sensational story, an amazing player or two.

Levy announcing Bale's return.
Sanchez switching to the Pride of London.
Alvaro Morata.

Something sensational please.

Maybe a dream too big at this moment.

2.) 08 May 2017 12:12:55
I don't see injury plagued Bale leaving Madrid.

I also don't see a so called sensational signing before Summer 2018 (if then) - to ensure the success of the first season in the new stadium.

Wembley next season scares me . I can see us dropping off in terms of league position . potentially back to 6th or 7th.

3.) 08 May 2017 20:47:44
Yellow card, once we master the massive pitch at Wembley it will become our fortress. It compliments our fast attacking and passing game, and actually will suit us perfectly.

4.) 08 May 2017 22:07:34
We could be out of it by then Oracle - playing last Friday our defence was pulled all over the place. The early season draws cost us this year, early season defeats at Wembley won't help us next season.

5.) 10 May 2017 09:21:24
Oracle did you deliver the invitation to Damiao for Sundays farewell? Would be a shame if a legend like him were to miss out!

6.) 11 May 2017 13:54:36
Bale will end up at Man Utd so why would it be impossible for you to see him leaving Real Madrid.

He has played 17 games this season due to injury, hardly a serial rehabilitation sick note.

7.) 11 May 2017 22:33:51
He's played 26 games this season, 31 games last season - per Real's website . not exactly a lot. you think he would fair better in the more physical premier league?

09 Aug 2016 23:57:45
Paul Mitchell and Rob MacKenzie both resign on the same day. Something blew up behind the scenes - any one got any insight?

I know, everyone will point to Levy - but anything of substance would be interesting to hear.

Yellow-Card

1.) 10 Aug 2016 12:36:11
According to an article in the Guardian, Micthell got fed up with levy dealings and the Nkoudou deal seems to be the breaking point. Levy changed the payment structure with the new board of Marseille which have led to the break down of the transfer!

{Ed002's Note - It is nothing to do with the board at Marseille.}

2.) 10 Aug 2016 15:31:59
All i would think YC,

1. Is that Paul Mitchell was offering players to Mo Po and he kept declining
2. May have had a better offer
3. None of the above - LOL.

3.) 10 Aug 2016 17:31:22
Come on guys it's pretty obvious to me. All logic points to them having enough of our chairman! Look at the money being thrown around at the moment, I'm not saying it's the right thing to do but still look at the spend and then look at our activity.

4.) 10 Aug 2016 23:47:45
Is not about money his job is spotting the talent! There is talent out there that doesn't cost 89m, look at Payet last year what 11m - if I was the chairman there's your answer.

5.) 11 Aug 2016 07:49:09
I agree but if you put your Mitch hat on I can't imagine the pressure of having to find the next Payet or Alli along with managing the higher expectations at a club like Spurs every time you dip into the transfer market. Throw into that Levy and his notorious way of negotiating plus the fact we are not really prepared to spend money and the job isn't quite so appealing.

Why would he chose to leave? We have champions league football, Spurs are really the next in line for players wanting to come outside the traditional big four, we now have a reputation for giving young talent a change to develope, really good harmony with in young squad, were in London etc. Surely all the ingredients are there to attract the next Payet, Alli etc yet Mitch chucks the towel in for Leicester or Liverpool possibly if the rumours are to be believed. All roads lead to Levy for me!

Listen this isn't doom and gloom as we finished 3rd last term and have kept the squad together but let's be honest we have struggled this window, it's seems the N'koudou deal has collapsed now, a deal which had the majority of us asking is this lad a player? In short could be the next Payet or Alli but a gamble yet couldn't get this prospect over the line! We need to upgrade Chadli, Benteleb, Carroll and Mason this window to push on and for that need to spend a little cash to achieve this, not necessarily silly money just get the deals done so that poch has what he needs.

On another note roll on Saturday! Football is back 😀.

Any substance behind the stories of Juventus being willing to pay 30m for Eriksen.

I'd take it if true and look for someone better suited to playing wide that doesn't disappear or get marginalized as much as the Dane does.

Yellow-Card

{Ed002's Note - Ignore the finances but Juventus could turn their attentions to Eriksen, no more that that right now.}

1.) 18 May 2016 18:57:41
Are Spurs willing to part ways with him?

{Ed002's Note - If a player wants to leave and a suitable offer is made generally clubs will not stand in their way.}

2.) 18 May 2016 20:54:46
He might perform better in a less physically demanding league were he should be able to find more space in the middle of the park. Not saying he hasn't been decent, but he fails to show up when we really need him and Alli has been more effective in the middle this season.

3.) 19 May 2016 12:16:11
Mark my words, we will miss Eriksen if he is sold.

4.) 19 May 2016 12:34:44
The problem with Eriksen is he doesn't show up in the big games . and more teams will be looking to shut us down next season.

The spine of our team is good . I worry about Walker, Eriksen, Lamela and finally Rose of the primary starting eleven. If we are to improve with a couple of upgrades those are the 4 I see to be upgraded.

5.) 19 May 2016 16:45:57
I think the poor finish is leaving a bad taste in people's mouth and allowing them to forget how well the players mentioned above played overall this season.

Lamela's aggression and two-way play stood out to me almost every game. He is constantly pressing and putting pressure on the opposing team. I love his effort. Rose also had a superb season and we should be doing everything we can to keep him from leaving for City. And while Walker at times can struggle, the pairing of him and Rose as our fullbacks is perfect for our system. Walker may not be elite but I think it'd be difficult to find an upgrade. I like Trippier but he is not better than Walker.

As far as Eriksen is concerned, he was taken out of his preferred position and had a slight drop-off this season. I still think he plays an important role on this team, and he is very talented. It was just a season ago he was putting in clutch late-game goals on a regular basis. If he is willing to stay on the outside and continue adjusting to his new position, there is no reason to sell him.

With that said, I wouldn't mind Lamela coming off the bench if we found a player of starting quality to take his spot. Being able to bring a guy off the bench that plays with the two-way effort that Lamela does would be huge late in games.

6.) 19 May 2016 18:51:40
Tyler,

So if we are to continue to compete at the top of the PL which players would you look to upgrade?

Cause we clearly need some upgrades if we are to build and push on from this season.

7.) 19 May 2016 19:34:30
I think we upgrade by adding depth. As a I said, I think Lamela coming off the bench would be a nice luxury. So adding an attacking threat that can take his starting spot would be an upgrade. Adding another quality striker, preferably one that can also play out on the wing (taking Lamela's starting spot as stated above) , would be beneficial. I'd also add another DM to backup Dembele and Dier. And it never hurts to add depth on defense. Dier being able to slide back gives us a nice luxury, and Wimmer played well when he had to come in. But I could see Davies leaving this summer which would mean we'd need to add a player to backup Rose. So, a backup CB and backup LB may be needed.

"Clearly" needing upgrades is an overstatement. For the latter stretch of the season we were at the top, or near the top, of a lot statistical categories, including #1 in goals for and goals against until the last few games. It's easy to point to the final games as the reason we didn't win the league, but with LC performing so well, us collapsing really just meant 3rd instead of 2nd. The poor start to our season is just as big of a reason we didn't win the league as the finish was. Once we established the starting XI we saw the team flourish. This is a young squad that is still growing, yet performed very well for most of the season. Continuity is important in their development, in my opinion. I don't see a need to make any drastic moves right now. I'd rather bring in guys to create depth for the CL run.

8.) 19 May 2016 20:20:18
I think the number of points lost by not putting games away or lost from winning positions throughout the season would indicate that upgrades to a few positions are required. We picked up 25 points in a 10 game stretch mid- season, which catapulted us into the Top 4. Before and after that run we were nothing special that indicated we could be consistent challengers assuming the usual suspects reload this summer.

I agree the notion of Lamela off the bench could be the type of in game adjustment that could change games . though I suspect Lamela himself would not be too pleased in gang role.

Any one else hearing anything about MoPo being on Madrids radar as a possible replacement for the Spanish waiter?

Would be a major step up for him into a very high pressure position, but he has said in the past it would be his dream job.

Yellow-Card

1.) 23 Nov 2015 20:17:38
Let's hope so :-)

2.) 15 Dec 2015 19:36:32
I hope you keep him tbh. Keep you out of top 4.

22 Aug 2015 14:16:21
Eriksen, mystery knee injury or on his way to Juve as replacement for Pogba

Yellow-Card

1.) 22 Aug 2015 21:10:11
Never good sign when a player "injured" in the transfer window. Until our transfer targets are not in their match day squads like N'jie was with Lyon then surely we're not that close to signing them which is a worry as I have no faith in our scouts.

2.) 23 Aug 2015 12:57:22
A certain somebody not in WBA squad, looking good for us.

Why is Eriksen, consistently, our most forward player today . where is Kane?

14 Dec 2016 00:34:48
With Dembele out, would you put Sissoko or Winks alongside Dier or Waynama in front of the back 4?

Yellow-Card

1.) 14 Dec 2016 14:14:20
I think he might go with Winks for this game as he did well in that position against West Ham recently.

2.) 14 Dec 2016 15:58:34
Yeah I expect to see Winks and Wanyama, but I'd put Dier back where he was so effective last season, along with Sissoko, who has the ability to be most like a rampaging Dembele. If Sissoko doesn't show up, replace him with Winks.

3.) 14 Dec 2016 19:07:27
Looks like we are parking the bus against the mighty Hull . Dier and Wanyama in front of the back 4.

4.) 15 Dec 2016 12:22:03
YC,

I thought that when the team was announced last night. But we lined up more as a 3-4-3, with Dier dropping in along side Toby and Jan. With Eriksen and Wanyama in the 2 CM roles and Harry centre being flanked by Sissoko and Alli. With Rose and Walker playing as wingers. I was very happy to see something slightly different and IMO thought Sissoko and Walker looked very good last night and Eriksen seems to have found a bit of form. I know it was only Hull but you can only beat what's in front of you. But if we can take all 3pts against Burnley it sets up the xmas period very well.

5.) 15 Dec 2016 17:23:45
THFC4,

have to agree a pleasant surprise to see a subtly shift in MoPo's tactics, pushing the wing backs further forward to try and start the pressing earlier.

He's played the 3 at the back 3 times now and it has worked out for him each time. Maybe a Plan B is emerging . be interesting to see if he shifts during a game as a change of tactics.

10 Dec 2016 19:27:54
Chance to go fourth if we win . time to put money on United.

We always miss our chances to capitalize on others defeats.

Yellow-Card

Agree yellow card when spurs have a chance to capitalize they always blow it, I will be taking the wife Christmas shopping tomorrow so the first shop we shall go in will be billy hills for a large wager on a Manchester United win.

2.) 10 Dec 2016 23:11:13
Never known fans to get so excited to be in the top 4 for a week.

3.) 11 Dec 2016 10:15:03
Never know fans to be excited for being top of the league for 24 hours lol.

08 Dec 2016 15:55:05
Eriksen has had 2 good games against weak opposition.

I'm thinking he won't show up at all against Unite, always goes missing in the bigger games.

Yellow-Card

1.) 08 Dec 2016 16:19:18
He has your right, he missed a sitter last night as well which would have gave him more confidence.
We have a chance against UTD I think. Let's hope we've had our bad spell.

2.) 08 Dec 2016 16:23:03
Bit like Raver 😏.

3.) 08 Dec 2016 17:32:42
Oddbod your dinner is ready 🍼.

4.) 08 Dec 2016 22:21:19
I think we will beat United. our best performances have been against City, Chelski and that other lot. this team seems to pick it up against the Top PL sides.

5.) 09 Dec 2016 00:25:45
Actually Dags I was thinking more like oddbod who never shows up on your page.

6.) 09 Dec 2016 01:02:31
Very true Yellow Card 😌.

7.) 10 Dec 2016 08:45:28
I'm the Spurs reality checker.

8.) 10 Dec 2016 12:38:05
That's not the words that come to mind every time I see you have posted something oddbod.

23 Nov 2016 01:33:41
I wonder if by "adding more quality to the squad" MoPo wants more 30m players like Sissoko.

Yellow-Card

1.) 23 Nov 2016 08:30:36
I don't know what people see in Wanyama. He can't pass for life, Nor he is someone who could dictate from deep. he is physical and that's where it start and end.

Agree with the sentiment Oracle.

But the stadium can be paid for by filling it up every game and winning trophies with the core of these players . a half empty stadium watching a team compete mid table will not generate the selling price for the club that Levy and co want. Levy is shrewd enough, I hope, to realize he will get more money for a club with trophies in the cabinet.

If it was completed, why did he play in Hong Kong?

I do expect him to join City, based on all the media smoke . but I doubt if we had 40-50m "in the bank" for him we would be risking him in a friendly.

4 signings all under 23, 2 of the best young central midfielders available signed.

If Eriksen does one, we’re covered, if he stays we have midfield depth to compete for years. Dybala would have been other worldly, and we seem to have got a lot closer to pulling that off than I thought possible.

Next year we need to make similar upgrades in defense, Verts and Toby if they stay will be the wrong side of 30. RB is already a weak spot and Rose can’t feel to happy right now about almost be fobbed off to Watford at the last minute.

Maybe my original post didn't articulate that well enough.

Tommy - it has nothing to do with our European history or not being PL Champs.

The reason is that a 5th PL Team qualified by winning the Europa Cup.

Yellow-card

{Ed002's Note - No, that is simply incorrect. It is because a teams with higher co-efficients also qualified - and that is because Manchester United has been more successful than Spurs in the last five years playing in European competition.}

But where has that team been all season? Glad they decided to put a shift in for Wenger . I hope it means he re-ups for another couple of seasons, but part of me wonders if he told them it was his last game.
