Reports in Portugal suggest we are close to signing Eric dier from sporting Lisbon. 20 year old English international who had offers from Everton and Newcastle before choosing us. That's the report.

Spursredeemer

1.) Looks like £3.6m and loaned back for a year, still leaves us short for this season in the middle.

2.) Done deal, that was rather quick

28 Jul 2014 18:18:55
Shneiderlin and J-rod are virtually done deals. Well done poch. Some of his former players should gel the team together!

Spursredeemer

1.) By the time the window shuts, Either you or Ralph Krueger will look like your full of s;)t

Hi ed 001, I wanted to know your take on the griezman rumours. I believe they are fairly solid. Pair that with your post below that poch is neither impressed with chadli or Townsend and I believe this is an area he will strengthen.

Also are we going to make an effort to sign shneiderlin in your opinion and what defenders will we move for
Sorry about the plethora of questions but your assistance is appreciated. Thanks.

Spursredeemer

{Ed001's Note - Spurs have made an attempt to sign Griezmann, he is Poch's choice and he is very keen. So it is now up to the club to back him and bring Griezmann in. They certainly made an offer, but so far no deal has been done, and there is Atletico Madrid to compete with. Poch is desperate to add a forward, who can also play wide, similar to the way he employed Rodriguez at Southampton.

Schneiderlin is a target, unfortunately I am told he is keen on Arsenal, who are also interested. They have been putting in groundwork for years, but you do have Poch, so it is not certain which way he will lean. He is very much expected to ask for a move from Southampton though, so it is likely to be a straight fight between the two of you.

Lovren was Poch's first choice, but he was set on Liverpool, and should be done and announced at some point next week. I am told he was also keen on Mathieu, but he was only interested in joining Barca. There was no interest in Caulker, though reps of his did contact Spurs looking for a return, as he was desperate to avoid a season in the Championship. I am not sure about the chances of getting him but Poch is keen on Isimat-Mirin of Monaco (oh and he apparently likes a young forward from them as well called Anthony Martial, I know nothing about him other than him being only 18 or 19 though.). N'Koulou of Marseille is another name put forward, but I would think him unlikely as they have very few centre backs there. Though with Bielsa in charge they don't really need many defenders! There is also a centre back from Porto that is of interest, but I have no idea who that is, I wasn't able to get a name on that one. I am assuming it is not Mangala though, as he seems to be set for Man City.}

1.) So ed just to be certain, you think griezman may well join instead of choosing Athletico. Levy might want to consider upping his wages!

{Ed001's Note - I do think it is not out of the question, purely because Atletico are not going to be challenging again this season, in most people's eyes.}

2.) I suppose they're a slightly less messed up Southampton aren't they. If we want him that badly I'm sure we'll act fast like we did with Davies (because Liverpool apparently put in a bid) but this is levy we're talking about.

15 Jul 2014 15:53:12
Hey eds, is it true that the Davies deal is unlikely to happen? If so is it true that we are looking at Rodriguez and blind (as Moreno is too expensive)

Spursredeemer

{Ed008's Note - I haven't got any details on Davies, Inter, Fiorentina and Real Madrid. Chelsea are amongst a number of teams who had him Rodriguez watched last season, Blind is attracting interest by Man Utd and Moreno simply does not want to leave Spain it's Sevilla or Real Madrid.

1.) Sorry what was that about inter?

{Ed008's Note - Their interested in Rodriguez.

Reports in Germany saying we will bid 17 million for draxler of schalke. That would be great if we got him as he has as much talent as the two eriks in our midfield. This actually shows poch has ambition for next season. Seems a different class to the defenders we're linked with? What do the eds, or fellow spurs think of this? (Blimey I'm sounding like hoddle waddle)

Spursredeemer

1.) Aint you got enough midfielders . you lacked up front ade /soldado guy received very little service from shoot on site townsend. not here to criticise an over abundance of quality midfield lack of quality at the back and up front.
baldini will only bring in players sanctioned by levy baldini was only brought in because a no of clubs refuse to deal with him levy if they are a good its a levy buy if they are poor its the managers buy.
most of last seasons buys underperformed but it will be interesting to see how many he can move on [pumped up prices]

2.) Yeah I agree mate. I thought we were shipping out Dawson to either you or hull, and a number of midfield players like siggurdson and capoue. This kid can play on the left (which even the poorest of teams such as Norwich exploited last season) so if he could provide cover for the new left back I won't be complaining. I still think bale left a large crater in the whole of our left hand side when he left.

3.) Not saying I want Dawson to stay. But If Verts is agitating for a move after the World Cup we would be foolish to let Dawson go without at least one new CB coming in.

It makes me laugh how most people on here wanted holtby to leave! He has been arguably the best player in pre-season, maybe along with lamela. Give everyone a chance!

On a more exciting note: question to the eds, is it true we are close to signing mateo mussacheo from villareal?
Thanks.

Spursredeemer

{Ed001's Note - you are certainly in talks regarding him. I just realised I typed Southampton on the Arsenal site, when I meant Spurs regarding him, doh. Still getting used to Poch being at Spurs not Southampton! He is Poch's target, he has been following him since before he took over at Southampton, and was keen to take him there too.}

1.) 03 Aug 2014 13:33:57
Spoke to a big Southampton fan and follower last week and he said that targets we've been mentioned with or secured have been on Poch's radar before; Davies and Musacchio for two. Also, he said Poch's Bentaleb is definitely Rodriguez, he can do no wrong in his eyes. Apparently it was quite common knowledge behind the scenes from March-ish that we were approaching Poch and the S'oton board are considered to have been quite naive with his new contract situation, not getting one signed earlier to bump up the pay-off.
Most worrying of all is that 'no plan-b' was mentioned several times. A few Saints fans are actually pleased he won't get a chance at his 3rd year as with Espanyol he joined when they were low, got them to a solid position the year after then struggled at the bottom and got the sack. S'oton had the same first two years with him and hope we get the 3rd! Haha

2.) Hmmm sounds a bit bitter from saints fans there Simmo.
Cause they don't rate him now. Had he stayed he would have been a great manager it's the way it is.

I like the signings we are making. Lb position done finally, 2 centre backs. Hopefully sorted by at the end of this week. sniederlin possibly and maybe jay rod who was unplayable until his injury

For once we sent just buying every midfielder available and making buys in areas we need them. To me that shows a manager who identifies the positions he needs and isn't just happy playing people out of position

3.) 03 Aug 2014 18:10:20
NorthernSpur, can you elaborate on Rodriguez being 'unplayable' because when I've seen him play he was just ok, far from unplayable.

4.) 03 Aug 2014 18:13:21
J Rod was unplayable is as much an exagaration as the prices being quoted for him. he's had a decent season under little pressure. To spend that sort of money on an average player with that injury would be very bad business.

5.) Agree Lucas not worth the money quoted and a risk after his injury.

But in the run up to his injury he was great scoring and creating chances for fun. fast powerful and an eye for goal. that is why there was a lot of hype of him going to brazil.

Its a big gamble and to do it at a big club consistently is a different thing but who else is there we will realistically get.

I hate to say it but Kane keeps on knocking in the goals. if he can take that into the premier league I see him getting quite a bit of game time

6.) Northernspur its a fair point he had a good spell last season and he can finish, but he is to dear. What a situation we find ourselves in. Spend 25mil on J Rod or stick with Harry Kane.

7.) Haha that's a predicament. think i'd take bony but may be worth giving soldado a chance

8.) 04 Aug 2014 07:54:57
Hi,
They're bitter about Lallana and Lovren but wish Shaw, Lambert, Chambers and even Poch well.
Jury is out on Schneiderlin, highly rated as a player and they can see why he would want to go given the exodus but, what happens from now will decide his future reception there i.e. what further strops or strike there may be.

9.) 04 Aug 2014 07:56:11
The 3rd year blip thing was tongue in cheek, the no plan-b comment wasn't.

10.) Morning NorthernSpur,

Do you honestly think Jay Rodriguez is worth that sort of money, OK last season he did well. Before last season hardly anyone had heard of him, the season prior he scored 6 goals. Not worth £25m in my opinion. Like Lucas said he's an average player which I agree with. But we really need to sign another CF, I'd personally look at Negredo if he's available
I'd also prefer Bony over Rodriguez.

11.) 04 Aug 2014 13:47:39
Hi Dr-THFC

No as per my previous post he is not worth anywhere near that sort of money - I would say £8m max. I was just saying that he was looking a really good prospect before his injury. much better than townsend, lennon, kane or adebeyor . as he could play all 3 positions

24 Jul 2014 19:24:52
Hi eds, just wondering if there is interest from us in vlaar.

I would expect:
A) a centre back
B) a left winger/that can play up front (like lamela on the other side)

To be signed in this window, and possibly shneiderlin. Do you agree with this assumption eds.
Thanks for your help

Spursredeemer

{Ed002's Note - No.}

1.) Why is that the case, would that be signing too many players for Levy's liking?

2.) If he doesn't buy them, then it's goodbye cl again

3.) 25 Jul 2014 17:36:15
At this point in time top 4 next season is unrealistic unless there are implosions at 1 or more of the serious contenders.

11 Jul 2014 18:30:40
Yay, the new stadium got the green light. Only slightly overdue with that decision.

Spursredeemer

11 Jul 2014 10:06:51
This is the difference: we are celebrating keeping hold of our best player. Arsenal: are buying world class players to replace their deadwood. The truth hurts people.

Spursredeemer

1.) You might also say the difference is that Arsenal routinely fail to hold on to their best players. How much of Manchester is ex-Arsenal? That's why they have deadwood.

2.) But they still have a good squad after they sell to Manchester, we struggle without bale and Modric. There's no argument about that.

10 Jul 2014 17:40:42
I can see the worst case scenario happening. Judging by the players le Arse are signing/being linked with they'll win the league next season. Somehow they sign Sanchez, and on the same day I hear they've put in a bid for Khedira, Germany's man of the match for Germany the other day. Honestly I think if we'd pipped them to fourth just once or twice, we'd be signing players of the same calibre. Instead levy is happy to watch on as they achieve success again.

Spursredeemer

1.) 10 Jul 2014 18:45:13
If we weren't cursed with bad luck and them with good luck they would be a sinking ship.

2.) Spurski iver the season I think luck is levelled out.
Then again when you are playing well you create your own luck. We haven't played well least season

3.) 11 Jul 2014 00:38:34
Harry was in charge when we were top 2/3 in January a few years ago with a couple of world-class players, ONE high quality signing could've seen us finish there, maybe even top (no it's not as ridiculous as it sounds). Now through some bad luck but, mainly a lack of judgement and poor decisions, we are a million miles away and drifting. Them's the facts.

CS I must admit I would never have guessed you were an arsenal fan. Your discussions seem too intelligent and civilised to be that of a gooner.

The fa cup has lost it's value if I'm honest. Now all anyone's interested in is the league and champions league. I however do value the fa cup. It's about time we blooming won it. 1991 was the last time!

He had a better starting 11 than us and Everton? Why did saints finish below us then. By that logic liverhampton would be world beaters!

Anyway answering the question, I think poch is a good manager who is able to get the best out of the players. I'm also not complaining about our transfers thus far. However, I am a bit concerned about his tactics on the field. The saints often squandered 2 goal leads last season and couldn't come back into games easily. I hope he is flexible and astute with tactics and not predictable!
