You got to think the players will at least make more effort than they have been doing of late, they’re not as bad as the performances have been.

They aren't as bad. but they aren't far from it. We still have no proper midfield, and defensively appalling. Reguilon will never be able to pass and I'm not sure how 'Royal' Emerson really is, they are both pretty dreadful defensively! Nothing will be sorted until Conte has had a couple of windows, and that's assuming Levy backs him.
