Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws claims that Barcelona have even lodged an official bid for Vertonghen, worth 27 million.

Believable3 Unbelievable14

Heard that, but let's hope Jan doesn't appreciate being fourth choice after Thiago, Luiz and Agger have been denied a transfer. He'd be a bigger loss than Bale IMO!

Agree8 Disagree3

Just checked out the paper and even translated it into English. No trace of such a story, I'm glad to report! Might be one to watch though.

Agree7 Disagree3

I cannot see Levy ever selling the foundation to our team, and £23m is laughable for arguably one of the top 5 centre backs in the world.

Barcelona have certainly expressed a desire to get another world class CB, and I would think he would easily get into any team in the world including Barcelona.

For our sake I sincerely hope that Levy doesn't lose the plot and swap him for the next Dos Santos and a few million.

If we don't ever learn hw to deal with set pieces it don't matter hu r buy and sell. So many conceaded from set pieces last year and not a single thing changed this pre season. don't get me wrong the new signings look good. But zoneal marking is a joke and honestly can't see us doing anything if we don't sort it.!

Agree7 Disagree2

Absolutely, letting a stack of goals in from set-pieces last season was as damaging as not signing a striker in either window.

IMO our defending of set pieces was shocking never have understood why teams stick 10 behind the ball on corners, Soldado got caught out at the near post surely the likes of Soldado, lennon, defoe even Rose or Walker used as a threat of counter attacking will stop teams flooding our box then our CB and midfielders have more chance of clearing a less congested area because zone or man marking it's just about attacking that ball

Agree0 Disagree1

Ridiculous that we always have 10 players back for corners, only releases more opposition to be up for the set-piece and make it more of a chaotic lottery. Definitely one of AVB's useless tactics, and it hasn't worked at all, quite the opposite.

Reports that we may be signing Carlton Cole. He is rumoured to have even scored twice in a behind closed doors friendly against Enfield in which Soldado also bagged a hat trick.

Believable4 Unbelievable15

He is training with the squad, since being released by West Ham, but we wouldn't be wanting to sign him (unless primary targets are not acquired and he can come in as cover).

I thought St Etienne were interested?

Spurs Steve

Agree1 Disagree2

He was playing for Enfield not Tottenham. There is no truth to the rumours of Tottenham signing him. West Ham let him go for a reason

Agree2 Disagree5

We are ya. We are not that desperate!

Agree1 Disagree0

He didn't even play

Agree3 Disagree0

He didn't he is just training with us we won that game 11 - 0 siggy also got a hattrick, lennon scored, assou but no cole so do not panic

Agree1 Disagree2

Seeing as I play for Enfield I should know this. NO he did not score. Enfield would not of even let him play for us in this match.

Agree5 Disagree9

Carlton Cole for free as a squad player on 50K would be a good signing. Probably never going to get a game, but still capable of scoring against Millwall or even Hull in a scruffy cold midweek game.

Agree2 Disagree4

Why give just a ' squad player' 50K a week and plus it's Carlton Cole who is crap.

Quite a few websites say we are in talks with Cattermole

Also some talk about Capoue but he would be poor IMO

TH1. 1

Believable1 Unbelievable14

Greatest joke iv ever heard first catermole? and to say capoue is poor? catermole is poor more like, and capoue is class player

Agree9 Disagree2

No way would we be going in for him- more of a rugby player if you ask me!

After finally showing some intent during this window, it'd be a huge kick in the teeth and a step-back if we were to sign him.

Capoue is a much better and more sensible option seeing as he can provide defensive AND midfield cover whilst only costing £8m and at 25 years of age {Ed008's Note - I highly doubt Cattermole is a target! I would expect Capoue to sign..

Agree2 Disagree0

Lee catermolle. you sure. like parker on steroids. lol yidade

Agree0 Disagree1

I heard Cattermole going to Arsenal as Wenger finally shows serious intent to win the premier league

Agree11 Disagree0

Definitely a wind up merchant.

Agree5 Disagree0

I'm sure our new record signing Soldado would love being hauled off for a defender (if we had any fit ones) when we are down to ten men all the time - Cattermole what a load of rubbish

Agree2 Disagree0

Everton fan here come in peace. Capoue is a great player and I would love him at our place. Why are you lot trying to sign more centre mids when you have paulinho, sandro, huddlestone, livermore, sigurdsson, holtby and dembele that I can think of?
Cheeks

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi cheeks, parker, Livermore & huddlestone will go, siggurdson possibly, Holtby is injured at moment, Sandro is just coming back from bad injury so won't be rushed back or overplayed for first half of season.
I'd imagine Capoue will be used in rotation so we can have a go in Uefa fa lg cups & stay fresh in lg while doing so

Agree3 Disagree0

Guys, as a Cardiff fan, I'd hate to see capoue waste a place on your bench. Tell AVB to let us have him instead!
