Question for Eds. Have we ever had any intrest in Dries Mertens from PSV? He plays of the left and seems to score goals for fun. I know the dutch league isn't near the standard of the EPL but I think for £10-12m would be worth a punt? {Ed002's Note - Even before Bayern Munich appointed Guardiola they were indeed looking to refresh the squad this summer and Mertens was one of the players they were looking to. However, their plans right now do not include Mertens - who is still of serious interest to Lazio. I would expect there might be interest from England and certainly Spurs has started to take an interest in him as a possible option for the summer.}

Dries Mertens is without doubt a really special LM. Anyone who scores 15 goals in 28 appearances from LM in the Dutch league has got to be a little special.

The only question mark is whether Kevin Strootman is just so good he makes Mertens look better than he is. Time will tell, but I certainly do like the look of him. Have to agree with ED that Bayern Munich are far more likely to get their man.

Really special? What about Dzsudzsák? He had two 15-goal seasons in Holland and look where he is now.

Kalou!

Dzsudzsák joined Dinamo Moscow, played 25 matches and scored 5 goals with 10 further assists. He also played for Hungary who are now woeful and scored 2 with one further assist from 5 games. So in this respect I am not sure what point you are maing. He looked great at PSV then Anzhi Makhachkala sold him for a £3m profit to Dinamo Moscow.

In respect of the other comment regarding Kalou I am equally mystified. He has played 25 games for Lille this season scoring 11 goals with 5 further assists. His last season 2011/2012 with Chelsea he was treated appallingly, getting a part bit role as they signed a load of top players like Mata, Hazard and Ramieres making selection tricky. A man who the season before scored 10 with 4 additional assists from 31 games. Even the saeson before 2009/2010 he cored 5 and assisted 3 more from 23 games, and scored 3 from 6 in the Champions league.

In summary you have picked two players who exactly endorse the exact point I was making. I couldn't have picked two better examples myself.

2011/2012 signed Hazard? Making a habit out of being wrong oracle. , or did I miss something?

So REALLY special? One ended up in Russia and the other in France, both having failed with their so called 'big moves' to Chelsea and Anji respectively. Not sure mate.

Although I have to admit, when Dzsudzsák was at PSV, I had my eye on him to be an excellent player.
Can never tell from the Eredivisie though; could get a Kezman or you could get a Van Nistelrooy.

"Can never tell from the Eredivisie though; could get a Kezman or you could get a Van Nistelrooy. "

I have never heard something so true. Middlesbrough remembers Alfonso Alves, and so does Heerenveen. Unless invasion of the body snatchers is real, the eredivisie is a horrible litmus test

Remember watching a programme which featured some bloke from John Moores University whom did in depth analysis of every player and team in the Epl in 2009 aswell as score predictions and Kalou came up as the No. 1 most efficient player!

Looks like someone has found wiki. Note to oracle - so have we numnuts!
