Looks like Benteke is Spurs number one target and he has handed in a transfer request.

Good news is Aston Villa willing to sell
lets hope Levy don't mess about and just get him in signed promptly before other clubs want him

Believable9 Unbelievable6

He's handed in a transfer request!

Agree7 Disagree1

Soldado has much better stats, and for the same if not less money £20-£25mill he would be a much better option! Benteke has only had one decent season. But at 23 levy will only see the resale value. I fear if we go all out for benteke we could end up with another Radziak or Chris Armstrong!

Agree8 Disagree6

Don't diss Chris Armstrong, him and Teddy were fearsome!

Agree9 Disagree3

As a villa fan I can tell you if you pay the dough your buying class, still raw but just think how much better he'll be after picking up tips from adabeyor (joking), only thing is he'll be off like a shot if you fail to reach champions league

Agree3 Disagree6

We are all forgetting one thing, Villa don't need and don't want to sell! So all they will do is what Levy always does, and tell us to pay up or whistle. And it will go to the last day, and we will be stuck with little and large!

Agree5 Disagree5

Are you not thinking of one little thing?

Chelsea want him so they can pay more plus offer champions league football.

To be honest I don't claim to know anything I am not the orcale then again I am not a tool lol I do think we will get Loic remmy and maybe Denba ba.

Thfc76

Agree3 Disagree8

I think we should get mido to come out of retirement and play for us again, anyone agree?

Agree6 Disagree5

I would sign Soldado and Benteke then Spurs only got defence to sort out which isn't a major issue

Agree4 Disagree5

I agree with the above poster Benteke has had one season, I didn't watch villa except when they played us, and I didn't see anything special then, not that he isn't.
But if arsenal were to get higuain for 22m then how can benteke be the same or more.
Also Soldado is proven and class for the same price there is no choice Soldado should be the No1 target.

Marc

Agree5 Disagree1

He's going Chelski

Agree4 Disagree5

He wants to play in the World Cup. sitting on the bench for Chelski won't make that happen. That said 25-30m for a one season star is a little worrying.

Agree6 Disagree0

Why would Chelsea want him when they have already got the other wonderkid of last season - lukaku.

Agree4 Disagree0

Lukaku nearly 4 years younger aswell!

Agree5 Disagree0

Lukaku is 2 years younger. Don't want Benteke unless he is available for about £15m (which won't happen)

So, Barca have confirmed David Villa is heading to Athletico. I can't say I'm not disappointed, however, it could be a blessing in disguise, due to age, adaptability etc.
It never seemed the sort of buy you'd expect from spurs unless it was a deadline day steal, so we move on.
Gomez has been confirmed for Fiorentina, so that's out too.
We seem to be missing out on really good available strikers here.

Eds, do you know if there's anything concrete behind the scenes? Or at least something that can keep us smiling a bit?

I know we're only a week into the transfer window, so I'm not too concerned, however, the good players that are available seem to be getting snapped up.

Dom {Ed002's Note - Interest remains in finding a centre back, a midfield player and probably two forwards. Much else will depend on those leaving.There is a long way to go.}

Heard a whisper that spurs are interested and good chance of a bid in for nani. Normally a reliable ish source but who knows a lot of people thought villa was almost done.
Yid D.

Believable4 Unbelievable5

I really hope we don't get nani

Agree8 Disagree3

Nani needs the benefit of a consistant run in a team. He has not had that at Utd for a long time. Dispite being at loggerheads with Ferggie, he was not sold and Ferggie got it right more Han he got it wrong.

Nani is portugese as we know. So is AVB. If AVB can put his arm around him and bring the best out of him, I believe Nani still has a lot to offer. Could you imagine Lennon down one flank, Nani flying down the other, freeing up a certain G. Bale to roam free in the middle.

In this sernaio, we don't need to buy another striker unless one leaves.

As always, his I just how i'm thinking at the moment. I may change my mind at any minute, but what do you think?

Flippit.

Agree6 Disagree3

Thanks but no thanks. 1 good game followed by 3 anonymous ones.

Agree3 Disagree1

Heard a whisper! It's all over the internet!

Agree4 Disagree1

WE DO NEED ANOTHER STRIKER! Whatever other midfielders and/or wingers we might sign - we're not Spain!
Only having two out-and-out strikers killed us last year. You're one card and one over-stretch away from no options. Add in lacks of form, ACN and fatigue over a long season and we need another quality option up top. Absolutely, glaringly obvious.
Simmo

Agree5 Disagree0

Well said simmo.

Gabriel.

Agree0 Disagree0

Simmo, you forgot two things about our strikers,
Being lazy and bloody useless!
Like you say, it's so obvious that everybody but the club can bloody see it. Never mind, I am sure there is another 5 midfielders out there we can sign, one might even play left back!

Agree1 Disagree0

Are you sure your a spurs fan Davo? Nothing about the club seems to please you! Gooner in disguise I'm guessing!

Ed, with Perez saying arsenal hasn't bid for Higuan, what's the chances of us signing him? {Ed002's Note - The statement from Perez has been misinterpreted - what he is saying is that there has been no acceptable bid. I don't know of interest from Spurs right now.}

Ed002, is Benteke our preferred option i'd we sign a striker this summer?
Tommy {Ed002's Note - I think he is one option. I think others would have been preferred but tehy are diasppearing off the available list.

Lol. Barcelona have agreed to sell Villa to Athletic M. So he's not coming to us like you are saying.

The Matrix

Believable2 Unbelievable1

It seems to me tottenham would have bid at least £4.4mill for villa if they had actually sent a bid in. He could still come to us, its just a price has been agreed. Athletico seems a safer option for his world cup chances though

Agree3 Disagree1

08 Jul 2013 16:33:22
David Villa is going to atletico madrid for £4.4m, Mario gomez is going to fiorentina for 20m euros. The list of names is getting shorter and it looks like Benteke is at the top

Believable6 Unbelievable5

The lack of us signing a striker has cost us massively for 2 yrs now, Levy brings in some fantastic players for every other position why does he struggle so much to sign a world class striker.
We know who we want just pay the money Levy!

Agree5 Disagree1

Villa, looks as though be maybe off to Ath Madrid, how on earth can we be arguing over his price, we don't always have to rely on sell on value for every player, we need players to get us into the CL, then the bigger player will come. Villa would be class in the premiership that's for sure.

Agree6 Disagree2

Benteke looks set to sign a new villa contract i'm hearing while they are on tour in Germany. seems our targets list has been destroyed as we have not acted fast enough

Agree3 Disagree5

Villa never wanted to come, the press made it all up.

Agree7 Disagree2

You had no chance of signing Benteke anyway. It's the London media hype linking you with these players. Benteke is staying at the villa and when he does move it will be to a big club. The guy is going to be awesome.

Agree1 Disagree7

Looks like its back in for Damaio then

Agree3 Disagree3

We're being strongly linked with Jese Rodriguez from Real Madrid, as he has 12 months left on his contract and is making noises about leaving for first team football. He only 20 but already a phenomenal player was bags of potential, and would be excellent for us as an attacking winger/forward in a 4-3-3. I can't see Real Madrid letting him go easily though, despite his contract situation.

Heard rumours this morning that a fee has been agreed for David villa, I'm sure we will hear more shortly

Believable8 Unbelievable11

Isn't he now going to atletico?

Agree12 Disagree4

Depends which paper you read, mirror says a deal had been agreed with villa but price to be negotiated with barca still

Agree1 Disagree7

Here in Spain the papers (Marca) are saying that Barca still have no firm offer for Villa. Jim

Agree3 Disagree3

Further to my last post. just found the article in the Madrid paper about Villa. Atletico will look to him if they fail in signing Negredo who is being linked with Man City. Jim

Agree3 Disagree2

Good call Jim686, seems to be a done deal to Atletico

Ok, so let's get this straight first - I'm as fed up as everyone else is about our inability to bring in Damiao during one of the last umpteen transfer windows, but now I'm reading that Napoli are in prime position to sign him up as a replacement for the imminently departing Cavani.

My question is, how do we as a team that has a 'partnership agreement' with Internacional, take more than two and a half years to fail to negotiate the allegedly complicated ownership issues surrounding the player, and yet, inside a week, Napoli appear to have resolved these problems and be on the brink of signing him? Something isn't quite right there.

Answers on a postcard.

BigBird72 COYS {Ed002's Note - (a) The agreement between the clubs makes no difference in respect of the transfers of first team players. (b) Leandro Damiao has complex ownership issues - something Napoli do not need to necessarily address immediately. Spurs would need to. (c) He hasn't signed yet - if Spurs want to move for him they know what to do.}

Believable1 Unbelievable1

It'll be funny if he ends up at Southampton after opening his big mouth about a move to every top club out there. Neymar and Paulinho kept their mouth shut, focused on their football and they have been rewarded. Damiao doesn't even start for Brazil and he goes on like he is the business.

Gabriel.

Agree9 Disagree0

The same could be said about spurs! What makes you think you are a big club?

Agree5 Disagree5

Damaio now us just a name.
He has been awful for the last 3 seasons. I'd sign him for 10 but if inter want 20/25 for him, then any other club is welcome to him.

Agree0 Disagree1

Damaio has never been top of AVB' s shopping list. He has at least three ahead of him to look at, if not more.

Villa
Soldado
Benteke

are just three I can think of that are been considered ahead of him.
I think Spurs are no longer interested in Damaio. Its highly likely he may not even move this window

Agree1 Disagree1

Villa - Athletico Madrid
Soldado - Would be who I want but the price is inching up and up. Somebody will blow us out of the water for him. Probably a big-spender who has either already missed out on Falcao or whoever doesn't get Cavani or, misses out if Rooney and Suarez don't/move etc.
Benteke - over priced and could well end up being very over-hyped if he doesn't at least repeat last season's performance.

Simmo

PS - however, given the recent transfer windows and always being left short of strikers, when it gets to end of July/early August we'd be made to be grateful for Grant Holt for £10m (oh dear, we've missed him too)

Agree1 Disagree1

Simmo, never a truer word spoken in jest!!

Agree0 Disagree1

One thing that we don't need is to rush in like lunatics, or we will end up with an average player for silly money.

As terrible as Adebayor & Defoe were last season, they are certainly better than Grant Holt and other jokers that have been linked. WE missed a box to box player last season, and Paullnho will bring a whole new dimension to the team.

The David Villa news is a major blow to our plans, but this is still up in the air and who knows if he might end up as Spurs.

Damiao is also still possible, and I make us favourite to sign him if we want him.

Soldado is also still viable and his future is yet to be decided.

So don't write of Levy just yet, as we are likely to switch to 4-3-3 next season. That will change the whole dimension for the club. Imagine the following team;

Lloris
Walker Kaboul Dawson Vertonghen
Paulinho Sandro Dembele
Lennon Damiao Bale

That team has a completely different dimension, and would require only one world class striker. One imagines we would keep at least one of Defoe and Adebayor as back up.

Agree5 Disagree1

They wouldn't line up like that. The front three would be
Bale, New Striker, Siggy.
Trouble is to get service to them we may need the playmaker too.

Agree1 Disagree8

Given there is concern about Kabouls recovery I would not be happy to see him paired with Dawson in the middle of the back 4, could be seriously exposed to pace.

Agree0 Disagree4

Kaboom is one of the fastest players in the squad, but his concentration levels always worry me

b/s

Agree5 Disagree0

If the rumored issues with his knee are correct Kabouls speed will be reduced and his ability to play 2 games a week - he would need to be managed much as Ledley was. and I don't think Kaboul has the same level of football intelligence as Ledley.

Ed's, has there been any interest on Gomes and bae and any bids for Parker & Hudds yet? What's holding the adebayor move up? Is it us wanting too much for him or is he asking too much in wages? {Ed002's Note - Gomes - PSV or Maritimo (who are looking for an experienced GK) seem to be the likely suitors; Assou-Ekotto - nothing I know of; Parker - no bids but Fulham or WHU are possible - slim chance of QPR; Huddlestone - If he moves the Sunderland, maybe Fulham - but no bids; Adebayor is down to money - wages.}
