If AVB sold Bale he would lose the support of every fan and would be signing his own P45.

Levy knows that to achieve his financial plans for spurs (including the funding of a new stadium) he will need CL money, which means he needs to get into it. The last 2 seasons we have wasted good January positions by not reinforcing the squad and both seasons we have paid the price. Remember last season our drop in form coincided with Lennon being injured and us having to shift players all around - we're still in that situation of having a very good 1st team but a weak squad.

We need cover for Dembele as 2 defensively minded midfielders makes us too static (our recent drop in form coincided with him being out). Also we still lack cover for Lennon, which is possibly more worrying as I'd be amazed if he can go a whole season without at least one month out injured, it's just the nature of his physique and style to be injury prone.

Rather than sell in January I think we must get 1st team quality players at right midfield and a creative central midfielder and nail a top 4 place. Any ideas who might be available?

What a stupid comment about AVB losing his job. If someone offers £60m+ for Bale and we secure a player like Willian for £20m I take it you think that is bad business.

There are very few players in the world who are worth the sort of money that is being touted by the press, and I can guarantee you if anyone offers anywhere near that figure he will be gone. Messi or perhaps Cristiano Ronaldo are worth that money, but come on get a grip Bale isnt even close to that level.

I do not believe that Bale will be sold but will be the first fan singing Daniel Levy's praise if he can get around £60m for him. To make any suggestion towards AVB shows your knowledge about football, because those decisions sit with Levy and not AVB.

Kind regards

Gareth Bale isnt going to spain this season or next. I can imagine him leaving after 2013/2014 season though for a nice fee. Fair play to him as he has done loads for tottenham and who can begrudge him wanting to play abroad at some stage at least hes been honest about it

Would you be saying that if we end up coming 5th and miss out on CL football and all that money?

Would you be saying that when top players refuse to come to spurs because they think we are a selling club with no ambition who are preapred to let the players they want to play alongside go?

Just how would you spend all that money then? The problem with people like you Oracle is that all you see are the $$ signs without having a clue about how football actually works and how clubs are run. There's more to 'good business' than the transfer fee that you receive.

Wise up.

40m at most not worth that

Agree4 Disagree3

Oracle....Why are you so concerned about earning big money on Gareth Bale, saying that it's good business. It's not going in your pocket & Levy the tight **** will not reinvest in a star signing. What's wrong with you?

Agree3 Disagree5

Look, let's get this straight. I love Spurs dearly, but am realistic that we cannot compete with clubs losing £100s millions. I rate Bale as one of the best in the world, and accept he would be a massive loss. However £60m would be a massive gain, particularly when the likes of Willian and Erikson are being touted at £20m.

If big clubs continue to throw big money at players like Bale, surely you can see it only strengthen genuine clubs like Spurs. Only 11 men can take the field, and players like Willian will replace those who leave.

So finally let's just hypothetically assume we lose Bale for £60m, and gain Willian £20m, Eriksen £20m, Diame £10m & Huntelaar £10m. Would you say with these hypothetical additions we would be weaker or stronger?

So of course I want him to stay but if crazy offers are tabled , we can become even stronger.

Finally I bet you Willian and Eriksen both become bigger stars than Bale, not as convinced we will be lucky enough to secure these two superstars in the making.

It's hardly straight talking to say that we cannot compete with clubs losing £100s millions - if you want to be specific then name those clubs. Who are these clubs that are losing all this money but still running?

But your whole argument is a complete contradiction. You are saying that we cannot compete financially with these clubs, so how will £60m help? Will it help us to beat clubs that are losing £100s of millions? Will 'just' £60m extra for us bridge that gap? Will it allow us to offer players £250k per week wages? Of course it won't - the clubs with a lot more cash will flash it, so we have to be realistic because even with a £60m cash injection we cannot afford to up our wage bill as that will make us unsustainable in the longer term.

Your main argument is that £60m will turn around us not being as rich as other clubs. I don't think that is realistic. Sure there is always a price at which you sell, but £60m (which is not even being touted as a possible transfer fee beyond your own claims) will not make us into a financial power house.

What we have to do is to attract the best of the rest whilst holding on dearly to what we have managed to pinch whilst we have it. Bale is such a player - because having him in the side is not just helping us to win games on the pitch but also to attract other players. Getting players like Lloris, Vert and Dembele is a much easier task when you can point to Bale as a new team mate. It means that players like Huntelaar (who we can afford with or without selling Bale) will be more likely to choose us over other teams. Think Eriksen will want to play for us if he thinks we are going to sell all the good players around him?

This is exactly what is happening at Arsenal. They have plenty of cash but are struggling to hold onto their best players and to attract new top quality ones. If you were a top player would you rather play in a team with Febregas, Nasri and RVP or one without?

And finally we don't need the money. We broke even in the summer transfer window, and have spent well below our financial capacity for the last few years. We can afford to spend the money on those sorts of players - can we afford to turn them off by selling the very players that make us look bigger than we are?

Wulf you wrote a lot of words, but seem to be unable to understand simple logic. There are no contradictions in my post, just a lack of intellect in your ability to see the big picture. To be honest my posts have all the information you need to work it out, so try reading them 5 times and then think before replying and you may get the point.

If there is a lack of logic then point it out. You make a lot of claims that you just don't get close to backing up.

You claim that to compete with the financial powerhouses we need to sell Bale for £60m. My point is how would that help us to pay our players £200k a week like the real financial powerhouses can?

Answer that oh Oracle master of foresight.

If we keep these results coming surely we will be a more attractive destination come Jan for Huntelaar than Arsene Whingers lot?

ED any idea of price Schalke are looking for?

Shadders {Ed002's Note - Nothing has changed and there is no deal close to being completed. The situation remains that Schalke certainly do not want to sell Huntelaar as it is going very well for him in Gelsenkirchen and they want him to sign a two year extension to his contract - and he wants to only sign for a further year. This is the reason for the impasse. However, Schalke said that they would likely sell if he refuses to agree any contract extension, and he hasn't - although that threat was there in the summer and they didn't sell. Fiorentina, Juventus, CSKA and Atletico Madrid have shown an interest with Napoli and Lazio appearing as possible destinations if he were to move in January, but several EPL sides are still looking for a striker: Arsenal (although they have other clear targets I would not be surprised to see him being considered), Chelsea (again he is by no means near the top of the shopping list but could be attractive to the club as a second striker) Spurs and Liverpool - both of which are interested at the right price, but I fear not the most attractive of options that Huntelaar has available. There is a valuation based on a buy out clause of 20M euros that Schalke might want to try and exercise, but even with several interested parties it seems unlikely that they could attain such a fee. The player himself could opt to sign a new deal or run down his contract and seek a hefty signing on fee in the summer.}
