Assou-Ekotto linked with a move to Monaco, with Fabio Coentrao linked with us as his replacement. Would be well chuffed with that but after watching Danny Rose play for Sunderland today I don't think we need to strengthen the left back position and could use the funds elsewhere in the team.
If the Monaco rumour is true, then the news will be fantastic. BAE is rated £10m+, and Monaco have very deep pockets, and would be unlikely to quibble of the price.
Danny Rose is still unproven, but when we finish 4th we will need depth. Whilst I expect Rose will return, we will need a world class LB to move forward.
The noise about Coentrao worries me more, any noise from Real Madrid has Bale undertones, and I would be gutted if we lost our superstar in some opaque player exchange deal with Coentrao and Higuain.
If we finish top 4 and Bale stays, then the rumours sound great, but if we were to fail in our Champions League venture, then the rumours could be slightly less palatable.
I'm sorry but how is Higuain an 'opague' player? 104 goals in 184 games for Madrid, in which he doesn't regularly start, In one of the best leagues in the world. I'd have Higuain at spurs any day of the week.
I Would sell BAE for around 10m, get Rose back in the squad and also sign Aly Cissokho from Valencia for about 1/2 the price. Use the rest of the money to add to funds to get Alderwiereld from Ajax.
A defence of: Walker, Naughton, Alderweireld, Kaboul, Caulker, Vertonghen, Rose and Cissokho.
Definitely top 4 quality for next season. I assume Gallas will move on, and possibly Dawson too!
Sorry if basic English confused you regarding my post above. Opaque was used in the context of the deal, exactly as written. I will spell it out for you in basic language just to help;
Bale is worth around £55m, and I do not want player exchanges to cloud his true value. If we are not careful we will get two good players for a world class one. Personally I like both, but you could probably buy Higuain for £22m and Coentrao for around £13m. That would leave us £20m in additional funds if we did the deals in isolation.

Exactly, that's why we got Dempsey, Sigurdsson and Dembele for around £29million to replace Saha, Modric and Rafa who bought in £43m. Dembele is decent and has more potential but if we'd ADDED him to our stronger team/squad of last year then it would've been progress. It hasn't been. We certainly won't finish higher than last year, looks like one place lower with the run-ins, injuries, current form.
I believe Madrid paid £21 million to secure Coentrao and he is still a young player, why are we going to be able to buy him for £9 million less? And more to the point, if we don't get Champions League what will entice him to join?
