Ed, is the interest from United in Bale genuine or just the usual paper talk? Thanks {Ed008's Note - I think its paper talk cannot see Man Utd paying a fee like 80m+ or Levy selling to Utd for that matter..

Believable7 Unbelievable2

Will this post get posted? I highly doubt it! Can't see us letting Man U having bale unless its over 100 mill which I highly doubt they are willing to part with

Agree2 Disagree3

After the berbatov saga, levy would not sell bale to Man U in a million years

Agree2 Disagree0

Would image Levy would want a premium over the price quoted to RM to sell to a direct competitor like Man U.

we've made a £30m bid for 21year old lamela of roma

would be an INSANE signing

alos eriksen of ajax has bigged up spurs today showing he's interested in a move, and we also want alderweireld too

with or without bale (and cash instead)

we are going to be a strong side for this season coming

hopefully this one gets posted unlike the last 2 :(

Believable9 Unbelievable9

The only way this happens is Bale has left and Levy and Perez are working together to keep the price of his replacement(s) down for us.

Latest Rumours:
Coentrao wants to leave Real Madrid, and at present, his options appear to be Spurs and more worryingly from a financial perspective, Monaco. Still, as one post astutely noted yesterday, Real still owe us money on the Modric deal. Would Spurs/Levy/Lewis accept Coentrao by way of a final payment? I'd have said yes to that offer, if indeed such a move was suggested.
Lamela doesn't seem to be agitating towards a move away from Roma, but there has been a lot of talk about him being the anointed one should Bale depart (which as my previous dissertation seriously questioned), and to the point where a rival website has even spoken about a £30m bid being submitted. Let's put it this way, TV deal or not, the only way we will supplement the acquisitions already made with another bid of £30m is through Bale's departure. Sorry, but on that basis, I just don't see us making that move yet. Shame though as he looks to be a great player.
Eriksen reputedly would not be averse to playing in the Lilywhite shirt. Whilst he ticks all the boxes as far as Levy is concerned - young, world class ability, and most significantly in the last year of his current contract - we have yet to register a formal bid for him. The prices suggested have ranged from £10-20m, but I reckon a bid of £12m would wrap things up. Some have suggested that he wouldn't offer anything more than the current crop at the club - Dembele, Holtby, Sigurdsson etc - but I don't agree. To me, he has shades of Modric, and he could be the one to unpick the locks and release Soldado. A great post recently suggested we should consider a deal whereby we get Eriksen, and in return, Spurs could send Carroll and Livermore to Ajax to see them gain some valuable European experience. I thought that was a great idea to try to secure one of the top young talents in Europe. Liverpool seem to be the biggest threat to this one.
Resurrecting a possible Ajax Old Boys get together with Eriksen and Vertonghen, the next candidate is Toby Alderweireld. I can't say I have seen a lot of him in games, but if you don't notice a defender, then I think that's a good thing, and on that rather loose basis, I would suggest that he looks like a great target for us in a position of need in light of the Caulker transfer and the frailties of Kaboul and Vertonghen. His previous experience of playing with big Jan would only serve to stand us in good stead, and his versatility to play at RB might serve to keep Kyle Walker focussed, which would be no bad thing.
Chiriches is another option at CB, but as things stand, this one doesn't look likely. Still, I reckon if we want him badly enough, £8m should do it. Don't know much more on this one, apart from hoping that Steaua Bucharest get beaten in the next round of the Champions League, which might expedite things in our favour!
The final candidate on my radar at the moment is Willian. Is he available for £5m? No? Then leave well alone please Spurs. I honestly don't see the value. Yes, he is great when he's on (so was Jermaine Jenas), but as a flair player, he has flattered to deceive anytime I've seen him play in Europe (again, much the same as Jenas!). The widely accepted valuation appears to be in and around £25m, which would be a premium, and given the likely cost of someone like Eriksen, I would definitely steer clear. Whilst I think that Eto'o is pretty much done, I'd prefer a bid in that direction rather than Willian.

So there you have it. On paper, and without getting greedy, bearing in mind the vast amounts of money we have spent to date, I think we still need to address a few positions, those being LB, RB, CB, AM and striker. IMO, Alderweireld could deal with two of those, Coentrao could address the LB spot, and Eriksen at AM. Those would be my choices. Coentrao to come on a free as a final instalment of the Modric deal, and the two Ajax boys could be had for £16-18m. Anything else, and we're starting to talk silly numbers again.

Who do you think we might target out of this motley crew, or are there others I've left out?

Thanks for reading this.

I would imagine we will have to match or better the rejected 18m offer for Eriksen.

Agree3 Disagree2

Good post & totally agree, would be satisfied with the finally 3 signing ( although would b very grateful for another striker )

In respect of matching the rejected 18m bid, you're probably right. That said, the closer we get to the deadline, the more flexibility Ajax will have to allow, or risk their asset depreciating fast and risking him moving on a free in due course. I could settle on £15m! Also, other posters are quite right - we do need another striker, so perhaps my aim to keep the costs down with Alderweireld, Eriksen and Coentrao would allow for another body. Of course, the elephant in the room is how the hell are we going to integrate all these new players into the squad let alone the first XI, if and when they arrive! Another problem for another day! Again guys, thanks for reading.

I think people miss the fact that we are 1oth or 11th richest club in the world and we have spent (what amounts to when balancing the books) £0 over the past few years. I believe Levy & co have been sussing if we can be consistent contenders with no significant investment . The answer being YES. Last year we fundamentally played with 10 men every game and were still in the mix for top 4 and by christmas still title rivals.

Dont get me wrong I believe that Bale may well go and if the money being talked about is true then sell him. However I truly believe the sale of bale is not required by THFC in order to invest in a team that could challenge for both domestic and European honors :)

Are we the 11th richest or the 11th most valuable? Honest question . cause the 2 are not the same.

according to forbes are the 11th on the most valuable club list with a revenue at 226m which is 12th.

Thanks . I'm not sure that makes us the 11th richest. Subtle but important differences, though being as most transfer fees are installments it surely helps our standing.

Christian Eriksen has insisted that his future will be decided in the next fortnight, while admitting interest in a move to the Premier League with Tottenham "Tottenham are a great club. I know this because of Jan Vertonghen. It is good club which is interesting, but there has not been anything yet."There are Russian clubs that have called and made bids for me. I did not take much time to refuse. I would like to join one of the five major leagues. I have the view that I do not want to go to Russia at my age. I do not look at the money."
Sounds like our sort of player

Believable8 Unbelievable2

Sounds to me like someone wants to move to us. Not looking at the money will have levys ears well and truely pricked

Willian is mustard plus he loves a goal against chelski!

Agree4 Disagree5

Willian for £27-30m ish or Eriksen for £16-18m, there is no comparison in my opinion but either would be good additions.
