Surely Baldini wouldn't have joined us unless there was some sort of discussions about transfer spending amounts! Maybe at long last tight arse is going to open his wallet!

Let's hope so Davo. It's about time

Everyone said the same when Avb joined too, that he must of had funds to spend when he joined.

Agree0 Disagree0

I expect him to have joined based on the ol' "we only have this much for this season (which in fairness is probably a reasonable amount but nothing ridiculous) but we project a much greater transfer budget next season" hopeful bs. Its happens all the time

Agree0 Disagree0

Has baldini been announced yet?

Agree0 Disagree0

Yep but AVB had something to prove to the Chavs ( which he most certainly has ) so he would have accepted less from tight arse!

Not a rumour but what are people's thoughts of andy Carroll joining us? Seen it mouted about, I personally think he would do a job for us if we get him and another striker

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Personally I like Andy Carroll but I don't want him at spurs, We need somebody better than him

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree about andy Carroll. Not what we need but would be very good from the bench with 20 mins to go.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think that he is exactly the type of player that we need - someone powerful enough to terrorise defences if they sit as deep as they have done this year, and get forced to move higher up the pitch which will allow us to use our pace to get behind them.

That's the type of player we need. I just don't think that Carroll is good enough.

Here is a shortlist of who in my opinion would be the most useful and the most likely to actually sign for us:

Mirolem Pjanic
Erik Lamela
Younes Belhanda
Hatem Ben Arfa
Christian Tello
Radja Nainggolan
Mohamed Salah
Fredy Guarin

I'm not saying we will sign all of them (or even ANY of them!) but they would all be available within the kind of price range Levy likes and they are all players who could make an immediate impact and maintain their value for a few years. With Baldini joining as Director of Football, some of these may become more likely (Lamela).

In terms of strikers, I can't see Levy opening his chequebook for the likes of Benteke or Soldado (as much as I like them). At this point I think it is likely that we may bid for David Villa and/or Leandro Damiao, but I don't think they will sign. I don't really see how Villa would fit in at Spurs and I remain sceptical about Damiao's ability, although I would love to be proven wrong.

My favourite striker links are Gonzalo Higuain and Jackson Martinez, and if Levy decides that now is the time to spend big then I would love to see either of these players at White Hart Lane - although I can't see it happening. I think we may have an outside chance though as apparently Baldini has a link with Higuain - he was the one who signed him for Real Madrid in the first place.

Just my two cents.

If you lose Bale, Lamela is VERY unlikely!

Bernard is lined up.

Looks like chelski an man s***tynare getting there deals done early, getting ready for disappointing window again! Getting ready for levy's broken fax/ third party ownership/paperwork problem again! It's all so predictable! Come back oracle at least you give us a laugh.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Last summer we signed Vertonghen, Dembele and Lloris - don't tell me you're disappointed with that?

Agree0 Disagree0

We didn't get the striker that we have needed for years though did we!

Agree0 Disagree0

Dembele, Lloris and Vertonghen all good signings but the fact is creative wise we didn't replace VDV or Luka and given that we banked around £50m from their sales last summer was a disappointing transfer window, at best we went sidewards but in terms of goals and creativity we went backwards. Spur67

Agree0 Disagree0

So we achieved our highest points total, and most away wins, but went backwards?

Agree0 Disagree0

We argue point after point till we are blue in the face but at the end of the day Levy let us down again by not buying the striker we have needed for years! Wether we got the best points total ever or not, Levy got us the manager we needed, now spend some bloody money and get us the striker we need!

Agree0 Disagree0

It's all about balance and Levy did not get the balance of the squad right. So key injuries to Sandro and Kaboul may have meant we would've been a bit tighter and got over the line that way, there was no plan-b to get goals at the other end because we had no options at all. Dempsey would've been an ok signing as some cover for Europe, Cup and some league games like where he popped up with goals but not for depending on as a first choice forward.
The two January failing in a row may have saved us £10-20m in transfer fees but have cost us perhaps £50-60m in League placings and Champions League money.

Agree0 Disagree0

Personally disagree about it being disappointing - and we did sign the striker we wanted (Ade) we just didn't think he would flop after the great first season he had (well to be fair there were some calls that he only plays well when he's on loan so props to those guys).

Another striker would have made it perfect, but otherwise it was a good window. We weren't to know that our points total was not going to be enough. We also went unbeaten against Manchester United and that is worth a lot. And Arsenal got something like 26 out of their last 30 points and that is pretty outstanding and they only just pipped us.

We're definitely not going backwards or sideways. We're on the up. Just need to keep the momentum going and I think that the signing of the summer could well be Baldini already.
