KM, Chelsea and City didn't spend in jan as they are both worried about the ffpr coming in and Uefa's determination that these clubs don't cheat their way around the rules.

Are we forgetting that Chelsea needed a striker, so they bought one.

Whats with all this not signing a player as he is 'unproven' rubbish. Most players brought into the English game are unproven. Ronaldo, Drogba, Mata and even Berbatov to name a few were all quite expensive and none had experience in the epl. Speculate to accumulate would of been my choice in January. I ain't taking away the great work Levy has done on a limited budget stadium wise but he has let us down big time by not getting in that striker we needed. He might get lucky and Adebayor might start banging them in (even though he is exhausted, bless him) but its still a big gamble.

Your right you do need to spend money on unproven players. I think 13m was a fair offer though and anymore would've been excessive so can understand Levy not offering more.
If he was a proven goal scorer in a European league then I believe we would've offered the 17-20mill they were asking for.
Anyway we must move on from January and support the team we have

Yeah you are right, but Mata, Berbatov, Drogba, and Ronaldo to a certain extent were full internationals and were in there national teams (Damiao is not) and they were not valued at £20m + Inter were trying to stich us up and doe's Damiao really want to play for us? if so he would have demanded a move and there are cheaper players who are less of a gamble being un-proven - Benteke, Cisse, BA, Sturridge, Michu, Suarez, Fellaini! I for one am glad Levy never spent silly money on a non-prolific striker - but I agree we need more goals in the side either from a top top striker of from a 20 goal a season midfielder.

Damiao has scored 75 goals in 131 games in brazil, was the top scorer in the olympics and is the top scorer in the campeonato (pure class). I do completly agree with you that we shoundn't of spent silly money. I do believe that we will be fine upfront to finish 4th but to push on next year we need some one like damiao! would like to know what everyone thinks of his.

diamo is a steal at 20mill.
simple as that. suarez cost 23 mill and levy decided not to buy. liverpool bought and now look at him.
some players wether or not from any league. will easily fit in.
look adebayor. wasted 8 mill. proven.

Agree1 Disagree3

I thought ht e issue with Suarez was the manager, coaches and or scouts at the time didn't think he would make it in the PL. not a Levy decision.

Just one more point about our failure to spend in January: In truth - nobody did.

The perennial high rollers, Chelsea and Manchester City, were both relatively inactive and without their cash fuelling the transfer market it was one of the quietest windows for a long time.

As far as I can tell, 18 clubs signed 35 players for a little over 109m: an average of just 3.1m per player and 5.5m per club. Where fees were not disclosed I have used the best estimates I could find. There were some deals with no estimates, but none of them look substantial.

The most expensive players were Christopher Samba, at 12.5m and Daniel Sturridge at 12m, but Wilfred Zahar could eventually exceed this.

The only remotely big spenders were Liverpool (Moutinho and Sturridge), QPR (Uncle Tom Cobley and all) and Newcastle (Oncle Tom Cobley et tout).

QPR and Newcastle are both threatened by relegation, so spent heavily to try to avoid a potential loss of 35m next year. Only Liverpool seems to have invested in a push for Champions League football with Sturridge brought in to have an immediate impact.

I must admit that worries me, particularly as he is probably the sort of striker that we should have been trying to get. He is a good age, has plenty of promise, has Premiership experience and was a good price. If he succeeds he will be a bargain and if he fails it won't bankrupt you.

Hi, geordie in peace. Apart from not buying a striker last window, I think you should be thankful for levy. He's done a lot and since he came, your finishing premier league positons have been a lot more better and consistent. I still think you should of gone for damio and sissoko who looks class. Looking forward to Saturdays game. I can see it being close especially NUFC are very strong in the midfield.

Personally I'm very happy with Levy and I'm glad we didn't sign Damiao, who is unproven and too much of a gamble. Adebayor will be back for the Newcastle game - we'll see if playing for Togo did anything for his form! I am not expecting the 5-0 of last season, you'll run us close with your new signings having a point to prove.
