Hi Ed's, is it likely that Verts could be leaving this summer? Where would you hedge your bet? Thanks

{Ed002's Note - Tough call but I suspect a new deal.}

I suspect now you've signed a decent lb and he'll be playing at CB rather than LB, you'll have more chance of keeping hold!

Apparently Mateo Musacchio has been pulled out of training today.? Haven't seen this boy play. I'm guessing he's some player by the price tag.! Although that doesn't really mean anything in this day & age.
Anyone seen much of this lad.?

I think a CF & our business is done if we also get Schneiderlin.

Looks like a done deal apart from the alleged 35% economic rights that his previous club, River Plate own. Apart from that, I'd say he's pretty much close to joining hopefully.

Agree0 Disagree0

And the 35% his agent owns which is the focus of a legal issue between River Plate and the agent.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agent owns 30%, the two clubs own 35% so talk of the agent dropping his claim. But what agent has ever done that?. Seems complex as Villa need to make money to cover thier transfers and find a replacement

Just interested in your opinions on your new manager.

Were you guys pleased when you got him? He did well with Southampton, but they were really rejuvenated before Adkins got the boot. Also, he undeniably had one of the better starting 11's in the league, arguably better than your own and Evertons. His previous job he didn't do very well and got sacked. Do you think it could be a bit of a risk?

My personal opinion is, however good he actually is, he actually needs to be given time. At least a couple of seasons. Also, he needs to have the say on transfers. Baldini is a joke who needs the sack. Levy doesn't seem much better. So I personally think you'd be best off keeping the manager and getting rid of baldini and levy.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

He had a better starting 11 than us and Everton? Why did saints finish below us then. By that logic liverhampton would be world beaters!

Anyway answering the question, I think poch is a good manager who is able to get the best out of the players. I'm also not complaining about our transfers thus far. However, I am a bit concerned about his tactics on the field. The saints often squandered 2 goal leads last season and couldn't come back into games easily. I hope he is flexible and astute with tactics and not predictable!

Agree0 Disagree0

My point was exactly that - with a first 11 that was debatably at least as good, he finished below you last season. I think you could have done better. But having said that, now he's there he should get a chance to prove that opinion wrong. At least 2-3 years.

Agree0 Disagree0

There is no argument about starting 11's and to say Southampton had as good or even better is ridiculous! Its all about squads in the prem and let's not forget one club was competing in Europe! Let's also not forget Poch was working with a young squad with little or no prem experience so done a good job which has led him to a massive club with a far better squad and time to build something.

I keep seeing reference to Poch' s short comings in Spain but what was the situation over there? Did he have money, did he have to sell players etc? I honestly don't know and to be honest don't really care but I am sure it's not as clear cut as he is just a poor manager/coach especially as all reports are he is technically good, works players hard but they tend to love working under him.

Time will tell and my expectations are relatively low this season however I am looking forward to seeing a change in style plus WHL back to its old self because let's be honest it was woeful last season and all started when AVB was in charge!

On another note. not long now til wet spam, great day out and can't wait! COYS!

Musacchio is looking almost certain now following quotes from the Villarreal boss. Good to get two young promising centre backs in to hopefully help out filling the holes in our leaky defence!

Dont take the mick we are talking about THE fa cup winners 2014 here, what a team. The way they beat those championship teams was breath taking.

Agree4 Disagree0

Last time I checked our trophy cabinet wasn't exactly overflowing.

Agree1 Disagree1

It's a commercial thing. It's just a couple of friendlies. I don't think anyone at arsenal is bothered if they win it.

And on the fa cup, as an arsenal fan, I was envious when every other team won the fa cup or league. Wasn't bothered about the league cup so much, but I wouldn't ever mock a team for winning the fa cup. I don't know when the last time tottenham won the fa cup was as I don't pay much attention to other clubs history's. But, I can guarantee if you won it, no matter who you played, you'd be absolutely ecstatic. And on the subject of the teams we played, who were our opponents in the third round?

Agree0 Disagree0

CS I must admit I would never have guessed you were an arsenal fan. Your discussions seem too intelligent and civilised to be that of a gooner.

The fa cup has lost it's value if I'm honest. Now all anyone's interested in is the league and champions league. I however do value the fa cup. It's about time we blooming won it. 1991 was the last time!

Agree0 Disagree0

Fa cup has lost its value to some extent, I agree. But that doesn't change the excitement and feeling of delight you experience when winning it. I mean, look at Swansea and their fans when they won the league cup. Probably one of the best days in their lives. I think when people talk about these competitions being devalued, it's more to do with the clubs and footballers than the fans. Taking my club as an example, for the 8 or so years after building a new stadium, we as you know won nothing. That's partly due to the fact, due to finances, we had to concentrate on getting in the CL. But what do they do. Do they concentrate resources on the cups, such as the fa cup and league cup, or concentrate on the league in the hope of getting a champions league spot. From a fans point of view, I'd have preferred every year of those 8 one of the two domestic trophies and no champions league. But, if we'd done that we would be in a poor situation now, with probably lower quality players and more debt. So I understand why it was done. But whatever the champions league is, it would never mean as much to me as winning a trophy, especially the FA cup. Because however less valuable it is to clubs now due to the poor financial reward in comparison to the champions league, that'll I hope never be transferred on to the fans. Some arsenal fans will say otherwise, but I think deep down they agree with me. I think they say they'd choose the champions league over a cup to save face - because that's what we had so asking for sonething different would devalue what we have.

All but Bony would be a good transfer window. The Valencia CB would be an impressive signing, and might suggest Daniel Levy does has a bit of ambition.

i'd take jay R over bony, best of a bad bunch. how is bony going to help soldado discover his scoring boots? we need clever, attacking players, not target men.

Agree2 Disagree0

Jay r over bony? Jay r has such a shocking scoring record it's ridiculous.
