I am a Spurs fan since they won the double in 1961. I am very slow to critizise Daniel levy, however I would like the following questions answered:-
1) Wer were told Moderic would not be sold until a replacement was in place ? Who is the replacement?
2) We needed two essential positions filled, striker and CM playmaker, what have we got?
3) Loris is a great signing but in all honesty we could have managed for a while longer with Brad, one of the best around.
4) Financially we are still ahead ie. sales exceed purchases by some way if you take the last two years in to account. I worry about the accountant favouring balancing the books rather then building a team to finish in the top four.
I am so dissapointed in our failure to sign a top striker and mid fielder. This crap of trying to sign players in the last 5 hours has to stop. It gives Levy an excuse to say "I tried to sign Moutinho/ LLorente etc but they would not come so it is not my fault. IT IS YOUR FAULT. Your business should be done (like United, well before the transfer window ends, and please, please do not say Berbatov. Berbatov is a get rid off, not an aquisition).
Ed, can I ask you, is there any forum for the powers that be to come on this site and account to the fans for the monumental failure to sign Moutinho and a class striker. After all it is the fans who fork out huge money on season tickets etc and I see in Spurs hierarchy an aloofness.

The Don {Ed008's Note - Maybe the Spurs website has a forum?

1) Harry or AVB?
2) Ledley or Vertonghen?
3) Modric or Dembele?
4) VDV or Sigurdsson?
5) Friedel or Lloris?

I have a feeling we are no better than last season, probably worse. With an improved Chelsea, Arsenal & Man U, as well as Man City, I cannot see us finishing 4th this season. {Ed008's Note - AVB,Vertonghen,Modric,Dembele,Lloris. Sigurdsson plays in Modric positions that's why I've opted for Modric and Dembele.

Sorry fellow Spurs fans, Firstly I was behind the AVB appointment, however after the first 3 games to only have 2 points, no wins and only 3 goals I am not sure he is the man to take us forward, before everyone starts screaming give him a chance or look what at what he did at porto, (anyone could win with players like Hulk, Falcao & Moutinho)
We have played 2 extremely average teams in WBA and Norwich at home (no disrespect intended) and a good side in Newcastle at St James, realisticly we should have been looking at a minimum of 5 -7 points from these games with a clean sheet or 2. If we really wanted a top 4 position this season. AVB is supposedly a tactical mastermind, but he can't even see that the high line, formation or 1 up top isn't working for us and as for the subs he is making why try and defend a 1 goal lead at home with 10mins + injury time still to go. Game after game this year we have gradually got worse,
Newcastle 1st game 1st half, played them off the park, 2nd bit more even still feel we were the better team, WBA 2nd game 1st half, pretty average performance, but was in control, 2nd poor performance ending up with a late conceded goal.
Norwich 3rd game 1st didn't even realise we had come out to start until friedel pulled off the first of many good saves, 2nd half only Dembele coming on showed that the 2nd half had started becuase of the cheer he got, but even though the 2nd half had started Spurs were quite obviously still in the dressing room. Completely outplayed and was praying for the final whistle as the point was the best we were ever going to get, and certainly didn't deserve even that (Well maybe friedel did)
I know people will get on my back and scream at me not being a real Spurs fan etc, however I am a season ticket holder and have been ofr the last 9 years and will continue to do so, but even the most diehard fans have to admit something has to change and quickly if we are to acheive anything this season. I hope in the long run AVB proves us doubters wrong and shows his porto success was not a flash in the pan, but on early evidence I can't see it, biggest problem is how long do you wait to change things??
(Wish we had got Moyes like I wanted)

Now we have all calmed down. Me especially. Let's give Avb a change.what we say or do will not change it. Booing at half and full time just added pressure he or the players dnt need.looks like we are re building after a steady 4-5 year. Alot of the dead wood has gone, and dnt forget he has been there 2 months max with new staff to.i really do think he will turn it around.he tried to shut up shop when we went 1 up. It back fired badly but lets all get behind him the team and I hate to say it mr levy, for the sake of the mighty spurs. Let's stick together as a unit as the and all haters love it

Question for eds or someone who knows. After a poor few days I'm sitting here thinking...who are our scouts that looks at the players? We can all go on you tube or come up with house whole names.. If our budget is 5-15mil a player why are we not looking for them an going for 20+ players and trying to get them for half.. It's pointless and wastes time. Look at Swansea they signed 2 jems for around 5 each ( sorry forgot the names- velencia winger and their new striker

I find it quite unbelievable the response to AVB by some fans at the moment. What were people thinking would happen? AVB would just come in, give a charismatic speech in the dressing room which would inspire all the players at one. He would then whip out his white board pen and quickly sketch out a formation on the boards and a few lines and you would see the players slowly nod showing than they knew understood exactly what he was saying. Then a few last words of advice and just as the players were leaving he would "a bit better from the set pieces as well lads!". A few months down the line we would be lifting more trophies than you can shake a stick at! Utterly ridiculous.

We are only three games in. AVB has yet to have all his players at his disposal. In the next few games we will see Dempsey, Dembele and Adebyor all starting regularly. In the first few games I think we have seen AVB start to show the type of formation that he likes to play but he has not had the players to play it yet. What is he supposed to do? His style and ideas are so different to that of Harry he has to start trying to change things now. Playing two holding midfielders at home to Norwich might look pretty ridiculous when its Livermore and Sandro but what about when it's Dembele and Sandro. Having watch Dembele at Fulham we know that he has started to drop deeper and then bring the ball forward becoming more of a transition between attack and defense. We really have to wait and see how the team will play after a while.

Alongside the difficulty of players have to change the formation that they play AVB will also be introducing a lot of new "micro tactics". In the media you often only hear people talk about the formations that teams play as if this is the only tactics that a manager can employ, if that were the case being a manager really would be similar to playinf fifa. But along with choosing the formation and players (the "macro-tactics) AVB will also be introducing lots of mini-plays. Things for certain players to do in certain situations which when all put together will give is our style of play. This will take just as long if not longer for the players to learn.

AVB need time, so do the new players. {Ed008's Note - Fantastic post! This guy has seen what AVB has achieved in Portugal! Take note some Spurs fans!

Believable10 Unbelievable5

Great post lets get 100% behind avb, it's levy who should be getting the stick not avb!

Agree5 Disagree3

Good post but it doesnt neccessarily answer any key points. Ed008, you know that Im already on record as one of the few who has passionately backed AVB and Levy but Im really struggling to find any positives. We have gone from one of the best footballing sides and a club that were genuine top four fodder into crap in three months.
We havent changed ALL of our major players and we have had a full pre season and umpteen training sessions to work on the formation that AVB prefers yet, yesterday, as I stated, we were all over the bloody place! This is also our third game of the season and, it would seem, we have actually been getting worse. The Newcastle game was a very decent performance and we dominated most of the match, the WBA game, ditto first half but dropped off in the second. The Norwich game, well, we didnt even get out of the dressing room and to be fair, we were shocking. Now either MOST of our players cannot, for whatever reason, get their head around the new formation and more "tactical" approach or AVB is not getting his messages across.
I did state, previously, that AVB had a pretty good tutoring from Bobby Robson and Jose but Im f*****d if i can work out what exactly he isnt doing to get his points across. The players looked utterly bewildered when they should be looking less so from game to game, right? The three new players? I cant see how they will have the desired impact. Lloris? I cant see him getting a game with Friedel playing so well, that man has at least two more seasons at the top. Dembele is utter quality, Ade, and even Dempsey, will be top target men ( compared to defoe) but, again, what huge difference will they actually make to the teams play? Aside from the keeper, we have two "NEW" outfield players who will have the job of making, as i see it, the remaining eight outfield players click into place, like the jigsaw. How? Everybody else has to know their role and where they need to be, surely!
I truly hope thats the case, im guessing that we will suddenly click into place and, by the end of this season I will feel a complete person for feeling this way and having had such knee jerk reactions.
I so hope im wrong. {Ed008's Note - I don't think AVB is confident to use the tactics he used at Porto in the Premiership due to the problems with Chelsea. I feel Spurs have better quick adaptable players to play a 4-3-3 his favoured formation but it pretty much cost him his job as Chelsea players couldn't adapt to it. I'd like to see this line-up in next game. Lloris-Walker-Gallas-Vertonghen-Assou-Ekotto-Parker/Sandro-Sigurdsson-Dembele-Dempsey-Adebayor-Bale. Fluid 4-3-3 plays interchanging just like his Porto side I think Moutinho would have made a bid difference in tactical play.

Agree2 Disagree2

Obviously the above post is not a season ticket holder or he would have noticed that us fans are unhappy at the way we are playing more than results, why are we not pressing the opposition why doe's Lennon always turn back and pass to the back four, when did Walker get forward (only passed back to Gallas) why did Dembele not start but he was man of the match for Fulham against M U, why no Ade, why is our 41 year old goalkeeper man of the match 2 weeks running at HOME, why are most of a top four team unable to create chances at home when last year we create 17-20 chances every home game and i know Harry had no plan B but AVB has no PLAN A - YET he needs a result against Reading or he is in big trouble at HOME against QPR BIG TIME

Agree1 Disagree2

With respect, I doubt that season ticket holders should be any more upset with our performances than any other supporter who can only get tickets to as many games as they can because the waiting list for a season ticket is mahoosive!
I agree, the way we have played has been far more important to us than the results. A decent performance with a loss would not have the crowd booing, would it. We just need to see progress more than the results, i know that sounds ridiculous but its true, the performances, if good, will have our full support because we know it would be only a matter of time before we started winning.
Ed008, yeah, I see where you are coming from, although i would throw Caulker in, he is Premiership experienced and a good player, Im not sure that Gallas is the answer anymore.
I just want to see a bit of structure return and have players on the pitch who actually know where they are supposed to be playing.
Super Y*d

Agree0 Disagree0

Didn't mean to offend I ment supporters that go every week spend a lot of money to be entertained with good football and hopefully the right result (most of the time with Harry) but the current formation with the same squad is a disgrace.

Two defensive midfielders at home to Norwich and backward and sideward passes for the whole game is not on.

Spurs fans like football a certain way and either AVB needs to change or go, Martin Jol played the Spurs way, Harry (love him or loath him) played the spurs way and us fans DO NOT want to watch the WAY AVB plays every game!

Even Swansea are playing the same way under a new manager it hasn't taken long for there players to adapt.

If Levy wanted rid of Harry that bad we should have gone for Martinez of Wigan

We want to be entertained at the Lane not bored to tears.

Ill back AVB if he changes the way he plays - yeah shut up shop at 2-0 or 3-0 with five mins to go but not 1-0 with 10mins to go and injury time what a joke!

AVB responsible for THudd sending off?!? Please! I think more awful refereeing and no competitive games since last year were to blame. So we've had a slow start, we'll be fine - expect Ade, Dembele and Dempsey to start @ reading. AVB not responsible for our transfer dealing.... Levy has ruined it.

Our main problem is how Levy aproches the transfer market. every year I watch good managers tieing up ther transfers early and then having a pre-season to bed them in and by the time the league starts they are up and running. Ferguson does this every year and hence Man U have such a good record, even Wenger did it this year. With our purchase of sigs and vert early I thought we had learnt a lesson but know our main signing was missed because we ran out of time, its a bloody disgrace that in the last few hours we are trying and often losing out on what could be a season changing signing. by doing all our business so late we are basically saying that the first few games dont matter. when we miss out on a europe spot this year we may look back and rue these decisions as every point is so important and it will be worth millions to the club.

Can we please sort it out Levy. I have huge respect in how you run the club finacially but to miss out for the sake of a couple of million on moutinio will cost us millions when we get to the business end of the season

Makes me laugh AVB out give the man a chance he has to and try yo see who he has who can create from midfield as levy let modders go with out making sure we had replacement ready to bring in and he did the same with vdv you can not sale the best two technical players in a team n not replace them levy told avb he would have money available to bring in players he wanted levy failed to live up to his promise again a habit he seems to have he continues to mug off supporters n no doubt will himself be ready to stab avb in the back in time as he did jol

Believable3 Unbelievable6

Spurs have been AVB'd, get rid of him quick, Chelsea left it too late and finished 6th!

CFC 4 LIFE

Agree3 Disagree2

Agree with 50%. Never wanted AVB in in the first place but I don't think that getting HR back is the answer. HR is tactically inept and his seasons always finish at Xmas. are you forgetting that it was HR's poor decisions that cost is 3rd place last season, he has no idea what to do when his plan goes wrong and he has no idea how to rotate a squad.

I agree that AVB's decisions have frustrated me over the last 3 games and lead me to question where our club will go with him at the helm as he hasn't exactly made a great first impression but I don't think HR would or should be the replacement.

I would have preferred Brendan Rogers over AVB for his technical mentality but unsure as to wether he was big enough name to bring in marquee signings that the fans cry out for.

At the min I'm kinda undecided as I'm not too impressed with AVB's start but in a realistic term I can't really say without doubt who should or could replace him. We can talk about mourinho and the like but if DL refused to pay a player such as Moutinho 80 grand a week then we have absolutely no chance of getting a big name well established manager.

Anyway feel free to critisise but it's just my opinion.

What o you mean Chelsea left it too late and finished 6th.
Let me tell you something, when AVB was fired he was closer, in points, to the top 4 than you was when you finished the season under RDM
AVB had a better points per game ratio last season than RDM.
AVB had 23 games.
RDM had 13.
Now, was it AVB or RDM that made you finish 6th??
Stupid comment. Before you say RDM was concentrating on other competitions, AVB was in all them too.
Yea I understand why you got shot of AVB, but you are making yourself sound a hypocrite by not saying the same about RDM.

Agree1 Disagree2

I think if anyone needs to be sacked then the first person should be Gallas. Him against Norwich was shocking even tried to score an own goal and fluffed that. I have absolutely no idea why he was wearing the captains armband and if I had my way he should be shot in both knee caps so that he can't screw up any other teams back 4.

Sorry rant over

Early days I know ...... But there is something very wrong. We needed to replace Modric with someone who could dictate the play like he did and who is comfortable receiving the ball in all areas..... We are missing that link between the wide players and forward.. I hate to be so negative so early on , but i will be suprised if AVB is still at the lane come Christams. Long Live King Harry.

As a chelsea fan, i am beginning to see the similarities in the tactics of AVB. Numerous times last season, we'd go 1-0 up, only to be pegged back to a 1-1 draw in the last 10 minutes, after taking of an attacking player in the hope to hold on. I noticed that on more than 4-5 occasions last year in the league, and already it has happened to you twice in three games. Sadly i just dont think hes good enough
