Im in a much more positive frame of mind regarding Tottenham after Bale has accepted a new contract. He is massive for us and no doubt will attract good players by showing his intent by staying at the club. I also believe that Gareth would not have signed if we hadnt got a manager in place, i believe that the manager has already been installed and has started looking for transfer targets. Moving in the right direction again! COYS!

vertonghen deal now looks in limbo, as he will report for pre-season training with ajax.but, gareth bale signing a new improved contract extension makes me think that the chairman has assured the superb winger that a good manager/coach will be appointed in the coming weeks?..so that hopefully rules out andre villas boas!..could it be Guardiola? now that bale has committed for a further 3yrs?!..here's my logic in thinking this..as we all well know abramovich wants success every season, and chelsea is a high pressured job, as for us a champions league spot for the next season or two would be good enough, and build a team that would eventually challenge for honours on a domestic and european front..no pressure!

How about Frank Ryjikard for Spurs manager? A few have said he's done very well in the few seasons in football management. I have no idea of the style of football he prefers.

In effect he has only been given an extra year and if rumours are correct he is the top wage earner.
Of course he had to offered big money and my guess is that the reason this has happened now is no doubt that other clubs were expressing an interest and again no doubt with HR going and LM making rumblings Levy had to do something. Bale was in the driving seat and he club had no choice.

Now that Allan McGregor has refused to transfer his contract from Rangers to 'newco' we could get a decent keeper for next to nothing. Better option than Ben Foster, Kasper Schmeichal or Fraser Forster who we have been linked with. We could do a lot worse than sign him.

Van der Vaart was signed by Levy - pretty surprising move. Adebayor too even though it was only on loan.
I'm getting fed up with all the negativity, it's not even July and some yids are writing off next season already. At least we're not that club down the road - now they have issues.
Agree1

Club down the road? It seems you're talking about Arsenal who have signed 2 marquee players who will definitely improve their squad whilst you idiots are wasting money on getting an average player for 10m and 70k per week. Don't make me laugh.
BthekingB

Well they might have signed two players , marquee signings are they . Podolski , played well last season , but failed to many times , and Giroud , the French league is not that good !! We will see , and maybe apologies might have to be passed on !

So hes an average player?
and you base this on?
because hes icelandic?
because hes a swansea player?[even though he was on loan fron hoffenhiem]
he doesnt score every week?
this boy can play and would be a very good addition to our starting eleven, with the probability that he will continue improving
Agree0

Would like to reply to BthekingB - marquee signings??? Giroud isn't even a recognised international for France yet - scored 1 goal I believe! I'm guessing Chamakh was a 'marquee' signing too. Like I said, that club down the road has issues. Definitely an issue if you're all getting excited about the signings you've made. They may come good but the last time Podolski signed for a 'big' team he failed. Marquee signings my a*se!!

I hope I'm wrong and I might just be being negative but I don't think it's worth getting out hopes too high about anything at the moment. It's very optimistic to look at our situation positively at the moment, particularly when it's mostly based on media hype.
Vertonghen isn't a done deal until he's wearing the shirt on the official website. Haven't seen or heard anything official linking us to Sigurdsson, aside from the usual media rabble. Also not convinced that the new manager is or will be sorted early enough. Didn't AVB say himself, halfway through all this speculation, that the links were "all lies"? Haven't seen any reports that convince me the situation has changed and there's no reason to believe AVB will improve us. Modric going clearly won't immediately benefit us because he's the best at what he does and there's absolutely no chance all of the funds will be reinvested.
Hopefully the past few seasons of low expenditure and last minute bargains, despite champions league income, were due to Levy's relationship with Harry, and we'll spend some this summer.
Just saying... :P

With regards to sig, and other transfers in general, once the bbc start reporting it it's pretty reliable. Short of official confirmation, the bbc is always the best. Regarding the avb quotes, how do you know they weren't taken out of context? I saw somewhere that he was actually replying to speculation that he wanted to rule himself out of the running because he's not the only candidate. Also, you say there's no reason to believe AVB will immediatly improve us, but equally there is no reason to believe he won't. Finally, what makes you think there is no chance of reinvesting the modric money?
Agree0
Disagree0
Yeh, I agree, the BBC is usually the most reliable for transfer news. Not sure why but anyhoo it's more than likely there is interest. Whether that interest will materialise into transfer, who knows? Personally I don't think there's reason to get too excited, it's all happened before.
The AVB quotes, as with many quotes, certainly could have been taken out of context. I still think it's nothing much more than speculation at the moment. As you say, maybe he's worth a punt, maybe not. I think I preferred the relatively stable top 5 finish we had before.
In terms of the Modric money, when have we ever reinvested all of the money we've received from selling? Berbatov? Carrick? And when have we reinvested in a way that strengthens the club? I think it's highly unlikely if Levy stays put and we intend to march on with the NDP.
Again perhaps I'm being overly negative but the last few transfer windows have given reason to be skeptical. Subconsciously I'm probably just pessimistic for the sake of not wanting to be disappointed. There's no reason new signings or appointments can't be announced before 1st July and the club is pretty much in-limbo at the moment. Everyone around has already begun making improvements. It's not a great position to be in but fans seem to have admirable optimism for the future. If Levy's aspirations to rebuild match those of the fans then it could potentially be the start of a new era of the club's development. I think many have presumed this to be the case. If he doesn't share those aspirations I think we'll be in trouble.

I actually agree that we probably won't spend all of it, but we will definately spend a significant portion of it. I misread first time. I personally don't think levy will leave until the stadium is done. It would be more profitable to sell the club with a big new stadium than one with lots of land but no construction. And if it's any consolation if you look on the liverpool page they hate the fact that they move slowly as well, apparently it's not just us!
