Apparently defo has been struggling with a pelvic injury but was trying to hold off till made got back from acon. Any club that Levy's going to deal with are surely going to play hard ball now? It doesn't always pay financially to hold out to the final day

Questions have to be asked now!

Why is Jenas still on the books, Why is Bentley still on the books, Why is Gomes still on the books, Why did the club try to sell Dawson over Gallas (obviously money) Why are some of our youngsters out on loan when if we are going to go out of cups we are still playing Huddlestone lets give the likes of Carroll, Coulibaly (now out on loan) a game, Who the hell thought Siggi was a good player he has not put in one good performance either from the start or the bench why is Bale not putting in the same level of effort as Lenon does he think he has made it! if he thinks he can just turn up when he is playing for Madrid he has another thing coming were was the hunger from some of the players today - LEVY go out and buy a striker who can win games on his own! get rid of the dead wood

We can't blame AVB he was trying to rest players today and the squad players are not good enough

Believable3 Unbelievable2

'cos jenas makes 45K per week and Bentley more. They won't go anywhere else. At least we clear Jenas' salary at the end of this year.... but, by the looks of him so far, we'll have Gylfi instead.

Agree0 Disagree0

Bit harsh on siggy considering he has never had a run of games like Dempsey.

You've just made a silly judgement on a player that plays the final 15 mins of a match.

That my friend is pathetic.

The Channeller.

Agree2 Disagree2

Silly judgement or not, it's true . Siggy is totally over rated and not good enough for us !!

Why or why has avb said he mighten buy a striker ? oh dear god any striker that know were the net is be good before thurs, have such bad feeling on deadline day tv will do the usual again tease us spurs fans and tell lies say that were in for this striker and that striker and really we won't be

Some fans need to get a grip, Keep banging on about signing 20+ mill players is just not going to happen, Levy is building us a squad capable of competing for titles but he simply is not going to spend silly amounts of money on one player because it simply doesn't work, not every 25 millions pound player is guaranteed to be a success, we will be looking at young players with huge potential and hunger and ambition as Levy sees this as a better value for money, while I believe we had a keen interest in Damiao I believe that ship has sailed unless we are offered him for say 12-16, expect us to be going after the likes of Benteke or other similar types in regards of age and potential, their will be no 20+ million pound signing this window or another window for that fact, and by no means am I being negative I still believe we will be a major force in a few years time, however I do feel our position is at risk this season due to the current lack of striking and creative options, we will spend but it won't be big

Believable2 Unbelievable2

Who the hell has banged on about a £20 mill striker ??????
Last I heard all we wanted was a striker who could score ! Levy talks a lot of rubbish quite often ! Get your cheque book out now before it's too f****ng late !
Ps . Where the f**k are our scouts ??
Davo

Agree2 Disagree1

Personally I don't see why we need to spend over 20 million to get a quality striker in. I'm not sure how a 10-15 million gamble on a striker like Negrado, Soldado or Huntelaar is any different to an 8 million gamble on Sigurdsson - a player who hardly ever plays. Every team makes deals that sometimes don't pay off. That's the name of the game. At this level every monetary deal has its risks. There's no guarantee of success, "premier league proven" or not. If we insist on buying young players with potential there is a likelihood of disappointment. If we insist on buying premier league players we will have to pay over the odds. Yet, there are countless strikers all over the world who are proven in their leagues and if our scouts are doing their job there should be no reason why we can't fill the void.

hk_yod

Agree0 Disagree0

And yes Davo, I read your mind!

hk_yod

Agree0 Disagree0

Why would we give away the location of our scouts anyway, they work behind the scenes most of which are located abroad, we hardly going to expose what players we are watching for every tom Dick and harry to come along and poach our players

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes so far behind the scenes I think we have lost them ! I thought we employed them to find hidden gems ? Put them on performance related earnings, that would get them off their arses .

As tight wad won't spend let's all forget about cl football or even winning anything for that matter...
Hudd
Sigs
Livermore
Obiki
Calker
And many many more these players are not top 4 player
They are good championship players at best
Time to shake up the squad or levy get out....
If Avb can't motivate bale Lennon Dempsey Parker dumbele then he can get lost too
Mr g

Believable2 Unbelievable4

Caulker and siggs championship level?

caulker is very highly rated.
only a month ago the majority of posters on here were questioning why caulker was dropped !

siggs just needs time to adjust.hes only young, has great potential and will prove a great squad member.

going out of the cup is no great shakes.
with the europa campaign commencing in a couple of weeks[which avb is passionate about] and the top 4 place to concentrate on, the added burden of the fa cup could have been a millstone around our necks.
b/s

Agree2 Disagree2

The problem with Caulker is he needs someone alongside him to coach him ..ie Gallas or Dawson. Verts does not do that he takes care of his (well not today) and expects you to do yours. Verts paired with Caulker is a bad mix.

Agree0 Disagree0

Diggs is a very good young player, what ? isn't he older than Rooney was when he broke through ? Stop using age as an excuse, he had one good season so far !
Davo

Agree2 Disagree0

Totally agree with davo if your good enough your old enough...
right now calker is not good enough he is back up at best might need another season on loan

I hate to say it and I normally wouldn't go on a rant after a loss. But I too, am losing my patience with the striker situation. I think the most frustrating thing is that we have been through this for several seasons and deep down we know we're not getting a top quality striker in. I think we might get Holtby in but I'm sick of reading the links and getting glimpses of what we know to be false hope that Levy will open the cheque book for a born goal scorer. We're not asking to go on a reckless spending spree or go into massive debt. We're just asking to fill a blatant abyss in our squad. Not going to happen - simple as that. We're probably the only team in Europe with just 2 recognised strikers.

27 Jan 2013 18:54:30
NO! Chelsea played more games with just a striker...that is if you think Fernando Torres is a 'striker' anyway.

Agree0 Disagree1

Agree fully. I for one am glad that we are out of the cup and I hope we are knocked out of Europe also. 4 th place is the most crucial ( apparently worth 40 million) and we do not have the squad to challenge for more then the top 4. If we were involved in 3 competitions we would probably lose out on all 3. I am an Accountant and like Leavy
I understand the need to balance books but this is a football club and priorities are slightly different. There is no doubt that our failure to sign a striker last January cost us 3rd place to the goners and the loss of 40 Million income. This is like ground hog day, if we do not sign a quality striker ie. Gooners will finish above us again. By the way, we also need a quality mid field playmaker and to analyse why we are conceding so many goals ( Leeds are not man united ). A clean sheet is like a virgin in a wh--re house.

Why are people saying get AVB out?? its not his fault. What if he played defoe today and he got injured, we would then be stuck with dempsey and gylfi up front in the prem! levy get the checkbook out and get us a quality striker, me personally I would be ringing sunderland up and ask about fletcher! also bring hotby in now. We should already have Willian at the club by now if levy knows what's good for the club!

Aint really bothered about today, finishing in the top4 is the priority and with the Europa league to play aswell that's enough games for us.

With Defoe being injured Levy has no choice now to buy striker(s) . Levy has dithered and gambled and now it could come back to bite him. Speculate to accumulate Daniel it aren't rocket science. Any outlay on a class forward would get recouped very quicky but Levy is obviously too tight or stupid.

spurs guvnor

Believable4 Unbelievable1

Not bothered, guess you've never had the joy of watching us win an FA Cup at Wembley. Trust me its worth being bothered about, a memory you will never forget.

Agree2 Disagree1

AVB said we did not loose because we did not score chances we lost because we did not create chances.Sounds like to me the only signing being made is from Germany and will not be a striker or VDV .AVB is doing all the right things that DL wants.Good luck I hope it works.
On a footnote it would be nice if managers told fans after the draw each round if they planned to field a weaker(rest players) team for the next game in the cup so fans who are not payed millions can decide if they should go to the match.

Coulibaly is being readied for next season, the Italian team has promised to play him and therefore give him valuable experience which he won't get here at the moment. There is no way that we will sell him he is a legend in the making.

Obika aren't good enough end of. Ask Yeovil fans! Coulthirst is a much better prospect.

Bod

I doubt there are many managers that could have got this squad to 4th at this point in time given the injuries we've had and a simple lack of depth in the squad. Oh and lets not forget the ever lingering lack of a goal scorer. Hard to complain about AVB when Levy has left him exposed.

What a joke. If AVB and Levy think that Dempsey is our main hope for 4th then we have got serious problems. Levy needs to get his finger out of his you know what and get at least 2 quality strikers and Holtby signed before Thursday night otherwise we can kiss goodbye to 4th.

27 Jan 2013 23:44:41
The difference was Leeds wanted it more than us. You say they were poor, think a bit of sour grapes there, I think Byram is 19 and White is 20, and for most of the game they had Lennon at Bale were in their pockets. Credit where its due they were better than us.

We should either play vertonghen left-back or buy another because BAE is easily the most frustrating player in our squad, doesn't even look like he cares.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

I have said this on numerous occasions, He can not defend, is prone to give away penalties and does not appear to give a s--t. He says himself that " He does not watch football on tv and does not socialise with football players". He is a headerball. Get rid of him.

The Don

Agree1 Disagree0

BAE, Verts and Parker are probably all not yet match fit. Not that that excuses the lack of passion and commitment on display today.

Agree0 Disagree1

Agree completely, read an interview with BAE once and he said football is only a means of income rather than a passion. Literally does it for the money and that's it.

Today is showing WE NEED A STRIKER!! When will levy learn to do the business at the start of the window?! Dempsey isn't good enough to play in the lone striker role, I don't care who the striker is anymore, I'm just desperate for a goalscorer to put away the chances.

Why did we buy Gylfi Siguršsson! he is nowhere near good enough for a club like us. Watched the first half against leeds and he has lost the ball everytime he's got it. got pushed off it far to easy, weak in the tackle and poor vision. I no he will prob score a hat trick second half and prove me wrong but I would put obika on and give him ago!

Believable2 Unbelievable1

We bought 3 and got 1 good 1 = Demble, Gylfi + Dempsey crap from the word go!

Hi all, first time poster, long time admirer/reader.

Just like to share some of my opinions with the site for all you fellow fans to see, I hope they are at the very least constructive.

Goalkeeper - Sorted. Backup is also sorted. Cudicini has left and we should now offload Gomes and then promote an academy keeper and then we will be sorted.

Defence - Our defence is solid. Kaboul will be back very soon and that will be massive for us. The addition of Fryers puts the cherry on the cake for me. We have cover in all areas and look extremely strong in this department.

Midfield - We need backup(s) for Lennon and Bale. We are all about pace and exploiting space down the wing and without either of these two we then turn into a very one dimensional side and and have no plan 'B'. Defensively before the annoying Sandro injury we were fine, with Parker coming back we were almost perfect. The injury to the big man has changed things slightly and I feel that we need an extra man in there to cover Demebele and Parker. Bring someone in. Offload one of Huddlestone or Livermore. Sorted. In terms of an attacking threat, We need that playmaker, that player who can thread the ball through the eye of a needle. We've never replaced Modric, and although Siggurdsson and Dempsey do a job, 'doing a job' is not what we should strive to achieve.

Attack - It is not unknown that we need a striker. In my opinion we only need one. Defoe and Ade can play and Dempsey can also fill in when needed so one top striker is in my opinion what I feel we need. Who this is only Levy and AVB knows but one sure that is certain is that we need this player. A Van-Persieish player. I think i'm dreaming, I'll stop.

To conclude - I feel that we need to sign a defensive midfielder to strengthen our squad, an attacking midfielder to play in the role just behind the striker, a back-up for both Lennon and Bale, and last but not least a top striker. These players would not only ensure a top 4 finish but also would give us, what I feel, a squad capable of challenging for the title, yes I really did just say that, but dream big right?

Diame has been linked and I feel that he would be an excellent signing for such a low fee. Moutinho is obviously the one AVB wants to fill the 'hole' but there are plenty other options and to be honest, with what I've seen of Holtby, he looks very very good.
Cover for Bale and Lennon? Someone like Moses would have been perfect, maybe Townsend could do a job but he hasn't been given enough chances so someone like Sessengon would be ideal for me to cover either side of that attacking trio. Lastly a striker, Damiao is the man I would want in a perfect world. But who knows who or even if we will get one. Just an added thought - I love Hernandez of UTD, he reminds me of a young Michael Owen, his movement, appetite for the game and finishing is something that I'd love to see in a spurs shirt, however unrealistic that thought may be.

So yeah, there's my two cents. Nothing 'itk' but just an 18 year old Spurs obsessed point of view. Hope the post wasn't too long or tedious. I'll try to keep future posts short and sweet if I can. COYS.

Our worst case scenario was going a goal down.
We struggle to break a team down when they defend well, now how we supposed to do that with no strikers.
If we don't score today, and my guess is we don't, then levy has thrown the FA cup away, and league points, by not buying the striker we need.
It's ok trying to screw teams by leaving it till the last minute to save a few quid, but how much will that cost us overall by defeats and lack of goals.
Levy, you play a dangerous game.

Well what can we say ?
What a load of rubbish .
What the hell is huddlestone, siggy, doing on the pitch ? Dempsey looks exactly what he is, a mid table player ! Why does Friedal have to boot everything long instead of playing it out, oh I know, a totally rubbish midfield with no ball player that's get over run every time the ball comes forward ! We look about as up for this game as a crawl through a puddle of rubbish !
If this is what we have to fall back on, then lets hope our injuries stay low !!

Like many fans; I have been keen on Negredo since reading we were linked.. however - deeper research reveals he is not actually that prolific, in terms of chance conversion (La Liga) he is closer to Adebayor stats then Defoe?

Now I am wondering if the value they put on him + his age have put our management off?

Also I see Norwich linked with Wolfswinkle; no dis-respect to Houghton but surely we can attract his signature over the Canaries? Personally I now think he is a better option then Negredo - any thoughts anyone..

Really get fed up every transfer window waiting for tight arse to open the wallet ! Between him and Arry last year, it ended up very costly ! If he doesn't bring in a top class forward this year and we fail to make the CL next year because of it, then hopefully he will do the decent thing and f**k off as his pig headedness is costing our club dearly !!
