Hi eds,
Who is our number one centre back choice? Moreno, lovren, both or someone else?

Believable2 Unbelievable3

{Ed001's Note - I am told Lovren is the player most wanted.}

So how hot is the competition from arsenal and Liverpool?

Agree2 Disagree2

{Ed001's Note - I think the major worry is Barcelona, they are considering a bid, if that happens I doubt anything Liverpool, Arsenal or Spurs could do would stop him going there. I just wish they would hurry up and sort out what they are doing, as otherwise his situation might drag on all summer.}

28 Jun 2014 21:47:43
Ed001 if you have the time can you tell me how come Barcelona can buy again I thought they had a transfer ban of some sort and I thought they had brought Ter Stegen as their goalkeeper but read that they have brought the Chile Gk.

Agree3 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - they got given a stay on it until after this window is complete. Seems a pointless thing to do, punish a club, but then say but you can have some time to prepare yourself to have a great team to cope with not being able to buy!
They have brought in both keepers, as before their back up, Pinto, was costing them lots of goals, so they wanted a second keeper who would be higher level. Bravo is going to be the back up, but he is an older player, so he is willing to accept that. Though they did upset his old team, who they did have a very good relationship with, by tapping up Bravo before speaking to them!

It seems Barca and Real Madrid are able to pretty much defecate on every other club from a great height and nothing is ever done about it. Even when they are punished, the punishments are given to them at their convenience!!!}

Barcelona not in the running if I am not mistaken. Liverpool have agreed terms and Wenger is trying to Gazump them.

Hi Ed's I have heard from a few people that regarding Sandro he has a very strong preference to play for AS Roma and we have held discussions with them and we have held "informal" discussions about the sale of Sandro to them before. Are you able to confirm this on your side?

To Oracle regarding Benteke I was also told we made informal inquiries in January but there will be no move for him at all, if we do it won't be until Jan as the jury is out on how he will recover from quite a serious injury.

I was also told we made an enquiry for Bertrand at the beginning of the summer but were quoted an insane price so that never went further.

Ed's or anyone else can confirm whether there is any basis for fact here or just baseless rumours I would appreciate it.

Cheers, ConnorPaxton

{Ed001's Note - I only know Sandro was offered to Serie A, I would assume because that was his preference to play there, but I never actually asked. There were 4 teams that showed initial interest, but I will have to ask again who they were. I will also ask if he has shown any preference towards any of them. I will also see if there is any kind of talks still in progress, as I don't know if the talks have shown any fruit yet or not. Personally, I will be sorry if he leaves the Prem, I like him as a player.}

Thanks Ed 001. Agreed, personally I really rate Sandro in the heart of our midfield, gives 100% every time and seems to want to play for the team and scores a peach once a season too!

Agree2 Disagree2

{Ed001's Note - he is one of those players that you look for on a team sheet, because he makes a difference. I think anyway. I would rather face a Tottenham team without him, than one with him. And his beard was epic last season! That deserved its own contract.}

Sandro indeed has passion and tackles like a beast. I believe that he is flattered though as he was consistently picking up the pieces for defensive errors from Dawson, Kaboul, Naughton. Walker, Rose, Chiriches, and even Vertonghen. A great trait but with the right back four I would be amazed if we needed a play who has little forward skills, and slows up the play. If Cambiasso decides to help his old mate Pochettino, then you'll see how bad we have been in that position. You need a player with vision and flair to bring Dembele alive, not a play that drags the midfield into a static second line of defense.

On the Benteke front I would be so sure about us signing him in the summer. He only tore his Achilles' tendon, and the extent was 2/10 on the scale of 10/10 being a total rupture. He is back training lightly and everyone is optimistic he will be ready for the opening game of the season. It is unlike a knee cruciate ligament or terrible hamstring or groin tear. Rehabilitation is usually fast and total, with the majority returning to full form.

One thing is true, Levy loves big discounts to balance risk. If we can steal Benteke for £15m with risk, then it might just happen. That doesn't mean he is certain to join in the summer, but I would dismiss this chance too lightly. If Adebayor and Soldado can be cashed then I think we will land both Remy and Benteke.

So exciting this summer, surely a better season awaits us. Come on you Spurs!

Crazy opinion Oracle. Nearly every side wants to have at least one strong defensively minded midfielder. It is not just about your defence either - transitions are the most dangerous time in a game, and a player that can break up and pressure the opposition to win the ball can result in fast counter attacking play. All the top CL teams have this style of player.

Also relative to many defensive midfielders Sandro does offer something going forward. His passing is under appreciated, and he knows how to stretch the opposition defence with runs into the channels. And as Manchester United fans will tell you, he's not got a bad shooting foot either.

Also your analysis of Dembele is redundant. If we continue to play him in a defensive midfield role then it won't matter who we have to bring him alive. Dembele has a near unparalleled ability to beat a player at close range with strength. This is a powerful trait in compact areas (most players who can beat another do so with pace and this requires some space to play the ball into), but if he is doing it at the half way line it is to no advantage. If we played him back in an attacking midfield role then he'd be beating players just outside the box and that would create dangerous situations. And as he doesn't rely on a pass into space to do that (he wants the ball to his feet) he doesn't need anyone to bring him alive.

But I guess it is transfer season so you are back to maintain your record of being wrong all the time. Of course this is the period where you try and woo people with your supposed advanced knowledge, before then using it to convince the newer guys that you have special insight on transfers.

When Damiao is in our first team line up at a home game at the Olympic Stadium then I'll start to have faith in the stuff you say.

Oracle, Makelele wasn't exactly Pele coming forward but was Chelsea's most important player at the time.

Oracle, read wulf's post. Then read it again.
That post surpasses anything you have ever contributed to this site.
Top post wulf. Never a truer or better word said in response to an oracle post.
Hats off to you.

With your name insinuating vulgar profanities I dismiss your last post.

Sorry I have my opinion on Sandro, and one dimensional is my view. Sure we need a DM, but give me an Ageing Cambiasdo ahead of Sandro anyday. One goal I his last seventeen games for the club, and exactly the same for his country. Hardly the prolific man infront of goal that you insinuated. Cambiasso is better defensively scores more than twice the amount of goals and assists, and is creative with the ball.

You hark on about two wrong predictions as if they were my only ones. Yet Harry Redknapp has come out and spoken about how he thought that Damiao was a done deal, and only this week the MPs debated the planning permission failed approval for White Hart Lane.

Wulf you seem very supercilious with your post, yet you have been a serial offender of nonsense yourself. Try to throw stones away from your greenhouse.

Morning eds according to a couple of papers we have bid 8 mill for Swansea lb Ben Davies, do u know if this is true or guess work by the papers thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - that is news to me, you are after more than one left back (which suggest Poch has already seen what Tim Sherwood didn't, that Rose is not good enough for the role at Spurs), but I was told the second target, as a back up, was Taylor of Swansea. So it could be a mix up by one or the other. I was told it in conversation over the phone, I honestly can't remember whether the words used were just 'Swansea left back' and I filled in Taylor because he came to mind, or if they specifically said Neil Taylor. I have emailed them to ask. It could easily be that the papers are guessing because Poch had Swansea watched a fair bit. They do a lot of that. They have a list of the games that Southampton had scouts at, they will be cross referencing them and making guesses about the players that were being watched. That is how a lot of the rumours they start come about.}

Thanks for the reply lots more strong rumours tonight, that fee has been agreed 8 mill and personal terms to be discussed then medical, only time will tell do u know if he is any good or is one for the future as I've not watched him thanks

Friday from the Lane:

Remy takes a step closer as personal terms agreed. Just need to finalise the transfer fee with QPR. Arsene Wenger is waiting in the wings if Levy drops the ball.

Benteke discussions also moved forward this week with Villa willing to let him leave in a player swap deal.

Depay rumours are growing stronger as Konoplyanka agent rebuffs Spurs.

Lovren discussions have been fantastic, but Liverpool offer better short term proposal with Champions League status. Perhaps the imminent signing of Lallana and the likely outgoing of Suarez will thwart Liverpools plans.

Cambiaso on a free sounds interesting, and looks like this has more credibility now Sandro is being courted by 3 potential suitors with Pochettino"a approval.

Moreno a dream come true option for Spurs. If Lovren joins Liverpool as expected, then this could happen. Imagine Moreno and Vertonghen at CB - paradise!

Daley Blind would be the icing on the cake, surely a bridge too far for Spurs. Expect a bigger club to snap him up.

Vorm is advanced talks with Swansea approval. All dependent on whether Lloris is forced out by a ludicrous offer.

Adebayor, Soldado, Sandro, Paulinho and Kaboul all being offered to potential buyers.

Interesting choices of words varying from implied factual statements to rumors, not sure what you are trying to suggest. You either know or don't know . my opinion is you don't have any more clue than the rest of us.

Agree2 Disagree5

So if Remy joins arsenal, you can say 'I told you so'
If Remy joins us, you can say 'I told you so'
As for 'finalise a fee', I was under the impression that we had all agreed his £8million release clause?
Oracle, you really are a tool. You have covered all the bases on every rumour you have 'given us'. As yellow said above, you really have no more clue than the rest if us. See you in the January window.
