I have to admit, after that POOR showing tonight against Monaco, We are going to struggle without Bale. It is as simple as that. Without him the new additions will settle too late. The fact that we got battered with the team that we fielded 10 days before kick off is a shambles.

I am a firm believer that we should not sell Bale this season no matter what the fee is. 1 more season then fair enough but this year the team was and is deliberately built around him so we MUST IMO keep him wether his head is turned or we sell him next year for £10Mill.

With him we will be contenders. Without him we will be top 6 at best IMO

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Please do not use tonights game as a bas for your judgement on the season ahead.

Remember. not everyone will be 100% match fit and focused.

Plus we were missing Kaboul, Vertonghen, Dawson, Benny, Sandro, Paulinho, Holtby, Adebayor, Bale

Plus Defoe had to go off after a few minutes. plus we have now sold Dempsey. PLUS still have Soldado to come!

If that were a team of Lloris, Walker, Vertonghen, Kaboul, BAE, Sandro, Paulinho, Dembele, Lennon, Bale, Soldado. I'm sure the result would have been completely different.

Have faith.

Agree0 Disagree0

How many times do the German and Italian national team get beat trying new players our in 'friendlies'. Come on, really. We didn't even have 1/4 of our starting 11.

Agree0 Disagree0

I said this weeks ago (way before we sold Caulker). We need a couple of centre halves before we look at any other position!

Even if we keep Bale we ain't finishing top 4 unless we sort the back line out!!!!!!!!

Agree0 Disagree0

How many of our first 11 did we put out compared to monacos? Purely away of giving some squad players a run out! Yes a bad result but if that result was with our 1st eleven then we should worry!

Agree0 Disagree0

I understand that we have several players out and have now sold Deuce. I also believe that our season will bear no reflection on the Monaco game.

I guess Espanyol will be the day we see what we are starting with!

What I got from the Monaco game though was that our fringe players are exactly that. We don't really have much in depth that can be game changers for us.

Looking forward to the close of the transfer window so we can settle down and concentrate on what we have! fingers crossed with Bale.

On paper ATM we are looking strong with our best 11 just want better quality on the bench.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree Foxspur but you got to consider when these players get a chance they'll be surrounded by better players so won't be so awful (hopefully). I think Townsend/Siggy/Holtby/Dawson/Naughton/Fryers/Carroll/Defoe/Friedel and maybe Lennon/Chadli if Bale stays as backups it's not actually that bad. Yes these players aren't going to be amazing but are all capable of doing the job.

Also these players are backup players for that reason, because they not good enough for a first team place. What would you rather, have better players on the bench? Dembele/Vertongen/Sandro/Walker? They were all good enough last year and with a striker we could've been top 3.

It's not all doom and gloom just because we got smashed by Monaco!

Agree0 Disagree0

I hear where you are coming from. We certainly have on paper at least have a very good team. I suppose I just get pre season jitters lol.
Doesn't help that we seem to get our best players poached all the time without buying replacements first!

Maribor, Liverpool, a few more beat him last season on the near post. Maybe I am being to critical. I wasn't just talking about tonight, Jesus we had half a team out.

***POSITIVES**
THAT DEFEAT TO MONACO BELIEVE IT OR NOT WAS A POSITIVE

firstly, don't think we played like that due to lacking Gareth Bale- as we had a completely mixed team that AVB would never field in a competitive game, i. e livermore Centre-Back (and soldado and paulinho weren't playing) and Fryers who isn't used to playing in the 1st team and regularly etc.

Secondly, a defeat like this shows our weaknesses when we DON'T have our strongest squad out (showing Levy that we need to make more signings if our main players i. e. soldado, paulinho, vertonghen, kaboul, sandro get injured, as the back-ups aren't good enough yet

Thirdly, it gave some younger players a good run-out, so that they are more prepared to be subbed on and make an IMPACT if there's injuries ( such as how Kane came on for Defoe and bagged a goal) and the likes of Fryers, who's developing very nicely into a first team player of the future, and gave tom carroll a bit more time on the pitch, and a debut for Bentaleb and another junior too.

Fourth and arguably most important, that game showed our major weaknesses and means that Levy will now be more prepared to spend on 1st team targets so that we can actually be a very strong force (maybe AVB fielded this team so that they looked weaker and made levy be more co-operative when it came to looking for more 1st team signings to take the squad to the next-level

Believable0 Unbelievable0

As if Levy and Avb needed reminding just how rubbish Livermore, Parker, Huddlestone, Kane are.

Agree0 Disagree0

I thought first half we passed the ball well especially as we had so many squad players on the pitch. we played typically avb stylee drawing the opposition out and looking comfortable on the ball. second half I thought your lack of first teemers showed but in all honesty it was a friendly and a great run out. not sure about chadli but it is still very early and he did look strong and fast so should prove a great signing rose looked good as did townsend we should have a good season especially if bale stays or we add a couple more first teamers ericson etc

derbyshire dave coys

Agree0 Disagree0

Also Townsend showing a few doubters he really does deserve a chance.

Agree0 Disagree0

Fifth you forgot didn't the lads look lovely in their blue strip made their eyes all sparkly! Only plus points were Walker was good Townsend at least tries when outplayed unlike Lennon, Dembele is class, can't see why Huddlestone given so much stick as only one who looked like stringing some passes together and Chadli looked strong enough for PL

Agree0 Disagree0

The only positive was Townsend. Ridiculous comments and just showed us how thin and weak our 'squad players and youngsters' are. Long hard season if we lose Bale.

Agree0 Disagree0

I have a feeling if we lose bale townsend will rise to the occasion and be our next club icon

RY

Agree0 Disagree0

To the guy saying 'ridiculous comments'- you sir don't know anything about your team. the points I made were valid, and for you to say townsend (the ball hogg) was the only positive, is beyond me

I'm not convinced about hugo lloris to be honest. Is he a class keeper. ?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Come on 1 dodgy game in pre season does not make him a bad keeper how many bad games did he have last season not many at, all think you are jumping the gun a bit.

Agree0 Disagree0

Really mate? He was class for spurs last season pulling of some great saves and keeping us in the game- don't forget that today our defence was shambles and had livermore playing as a centre-back, which wouldn't have helped hugo in the slightest

Agree0 Disagree0

Did a spurs fan really post that?
Jeez, some people.

Agree0 Disagree0

Umm yes! Remember who he had in front of him "defending"

Agree0 Disagree0

Commands his area and let's defenders no he's in charge and a good shot stopper but we could always Gomes back in!

Agree0 Disagree0

Who's the fool above?

Chill, there is clearly a point proven tonight. Keep Bale and we need a Forward, left back an Center half.

03 Aug 2013 19:14:25
Well watched the Monaco game and spurs looked a shambles passing poor control poor all round performance a joke nowhere near looking like a team ready for season just have to hope all this bale crap gets sorted quick or we will end up as we did with modders and end up with another poor start to season

Believable0 Unbelievable0

All 20 odd that played today, how many would actually be in the first 11?
It ain't all that bad, you could always be a gooner that booed his first 11 off at half time, in a friendly!
Wait until the palace game before saying how bad we look.

Agree0 Disagree0

All it has shown me is we need to get, rid of Livermore, Parker, Rose, Kane, Huddlestone as soon as possible, while the jury is out on Siggy!

Agree0 Disagree0

Lets list who didn't play.
Kaboul, Verts, daws, bae, sandro, paulinho, bale, ade, soldado, holtby.
That is a full outfield 10 who would either start or be on the bench against palace.
Don't read to much into the game yesterday but it does make a mockery of pre season.

If Bale does go, then Levy may still pull another master stroke.?

The scenario;
Bale leaves for Madrid for a world record fee (lets be honest can we complain?)

However; as part of any deal Levy states Morata will have to come the other way or the deal is off, to which reluctantly Madrid will have to accept, after all they have now hyped the deal to a point whereby there is no going back now!

Well; with Morata very much part of Madrids plans for the coming season, and with higuian already gone they will need to find a ready made replacement very quickly?

Madrid will turn to Liverpool for Suarez who would jump at the chance (and Liverpool would rather sell to a club outside the EPL), and if the deal goes through not only Liverpool, but Arsenal too will be frantically looking for a replacement striker target, meaning two big rivals for CL qualification would be seriously weakened going into the new season?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

And we will be seriously weakened too. Bale is irreplaceable and no matter how much money we get we will be a weaker team. We have been only a couple of signings away from a title contending team for a while now and Bale leaving would put us backwards.

Agree0 Disagree0

Spot on cockney magic. Also I doubt Arsenal will be frantically looking for a striker as I'm sure they would settle with the two strikers they bought last year. Although I'm sure they would prefer Suarez up front.

03 Aug 2013 18:17:05
Ed, question for you?
If bale is going to RM, does that mean they will pay the rest of the Modric money now along with bale money? Also, papers say they are going after Suarez next, that will take their spending to around £215 million. I thought Spain was broke? {Ed001's Note - they have agreed a payment schedule for Modric, this is a separate deal, so it would take it being specifically included for that to happen. The issue that holds everything up is Madrid's insistence on paying in instalments, when Levy wants cash up front to use immediately. Spain is broke, but Madrid aren't, Swiss Rambler did an excellent piece on his (also excellent) blog, regarding how they have the finances to continue to spend big. I warn you though, if you do read it, the blog is not a quick glance type of blog, it is lengthy and well researched pieces regarding football finances: http://swissramble.blogspot.co.uk/ I do highly recommend checking it out though.}

Thanks Ed, might try reading it!

Defoe and Dempsey linked with moves away in the papers today and if Ade is still off to Turkey we must have an eye on at least one more striker but who?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Alavert morata the highly rated madrid striker
Part of the bale deal

Agree0 Disagree0

We have enquired about Niang from Ac Milan but don't know what came of it.

Anybody else think we should keep bale for 1 more season? And get 65 million next year, think we would have a better chance of winning league with him beside ronaldo and messi no1 else in world football like him for pace, power, right foot, left foot, head really don't wanna loose him at any price for me he's unreplaceable.

if bale has gone ED what are the chances of getting lamela 30+ million erikson 18+ million remy 8+ million this chiriches 8+ million lamela a perfect swap for bale and levy gets a load of coffers for the stadium

derbyshire dave

or am I dreaming cheers eds {Ed001's Note - the issue with Lamela is more trying to sort out his multiple ownership, which is not allowed in the English leagues.}

I wouldn't change bale for anyone.
If he goes I'm worried that we have not got anyone who can break them stubborn defences. He just about did it who will unlock the defences if he goes.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Not anyone I agree. but the right 2 or 3 I would. And the deal being rumored provides that opportunity.

God knows why Madrid have given you a king's ransom for bale. Great players "smash" transfer records. Bale's on a level far below Ronaldo, who in turn is on a level far, far below Messi.

It must be incredibly frustrating to lose a bale just as you finally get a your first decent striker since klinsman! Difficult to bleat about losing bale when you bottle the champs lge again to a distinctly average arsenal mainly because your strikers have been Sunday league for as long as I can mind. The chairman should have put his hand in his pocket long ago to sort that. Your views?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

My view is you've been in hibernation for a good view years now. Our best striker since Klinsman? Have you heard of a player called Berbatov? FYI he played for spurs and was a very good player.

Anyway to the other point, Bale is worth whatever we demand for him, if someone is stupid enough to pay it then so be it. For example, say you had a car you loved and wanted to keep then someone else asked how much you want for it, you can name any price for it and it's up to them to carry on with the purchase or not.

I agree though he ain't Messi, but he still can get better. Saying that how much do you think Messi would be worth? I'd say £200 atleast.

Agree0 Disagree0

You sound very bitter mate, Possibly a jealous ARSEnal fan or grumbling member of the tracksuit brigade?

Messi and Ronaldo are both on a par with each other, Bale granted isn't quite there just yet, but he will be. Great players smash transfer records, and Bale IS a great player, Left or Right foot or in the air, he is strong and quick and will only get better. I agree that fees that are being paid are stupid but in todays market Bale is worth what anyone is willing to pay whether that be £10m or £100m. My only grumble if Bale leaves is that Levy and Co genuinely seem to have made an attempt to take us to the next level and build a team capable of challenging and the focal point of this revamp was going to be Bale, if he leaves it will be a shame he won't play in the same team as Paulinho or Soldaldo. But I still believe that there is a twist in the Bale saga.

I'm a Liverpool fan but looking at your line-up it's going to be scary!

GK Lloris

RB Walker
CB Kaboul
CB Vertonghen
LB Assou-Ekotto [Replace]

CM Sandro
CM Paulinho
CM Dembele

RW Lennon
ST Soldado
LW Chadli

IMO best midfield in the league

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Swap Bale for Chadli and then Chadli for Lennon

Agree0 Disagree0

Agreed and right now we have a 27man squad.

Looks like we're selling dempsey and Livermore-loan?- to make numbers.

But we're missing a cb so expect parker or huddlestone to make way or ade.

I hope we get some good upgrades in the mean time if there are any more outs. We can hope with a month to spare and baldini we might get one or two more after the cb

optismistic
RY

Agree0 Disagree0

Thank u and yes it looks good. Hope it plays as good as it looks. Good luck for the season to come with us to win it, u lot second, Swansea 3rd and Cardiff 4th.
Spursmad Dave.

Agree0 Disagree0

Personally I think we may see more of Holtby from the RW to give competition to Lennon, and I would like to see Siggs playing in his favoured role as the most attacking player in that midfield 3. He was so dangerous in that position for the Swans. I think a starting line-up of Sandro-Paulinho-Dembele will not be as common as people expect, we'll maybe only see it against the bigger teams to give us more of a physical edge. Against most teams I expect those three players will compete for two places, with the other place going to Siggs/Holtby.

This is all moot point though, because Bale ain't leaving! xD

Adam

Agree0 Disagree0

I have a feeling Sandro will be on the bench more than people expect. concerns about his tendency to pick up big injuries will result in him being protected somewhat through. dare I say it squad rotation.

Agree0 Disagree0

Rolando from Porto is being lined up.
