Good evening boys.

Understand dagenham, we get to watch LLoris do the same way to often.

Welcome back mr hoddle.
Till the end of the season

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Oh what the guy that says being an Invalid is a punishment from above? The guy who when we he was manager and Leicester knocked us out of the F A Cup stood on the touchline totally still without a clue what to do?
You are deluded, you have forgotten what a pathetic manager Hoddle was. If he is so good mate how come he is a pundit on SPN?

Agree0 Disagree0

Massively different circumstances involved back then and a long time ago as far as Hoddle as a person goes. Most will now accept what a good England manager he was and, it seems all regret the circumstances that led to and resulted in him being hounded out. It was always too early for him to come to Spurs back then, felt like it at the time and ended up that way. The game has moved on, their is far more technical talent in the squad and resource if he were to remain in charge and be backed. Tactically he knows his stuff and seems to have made a lot of comments over the past few years that would suggest he has learnt from mistakes regarding personal views and man-management. He has seen player-power evolve and is aware of that like everybody and the game has maybe moved on towards 'his' way of coaching I think.
Still, not likely to happen anyway so pretty irrelevant. The time was post-AVB, could've seen how it went for a few months and everybody had their get-out clauses and excuses at the ready to keep-face all round if it hadn't worked out. Instead we have a completely different mess as always.

Anyone heard the rumours that Sherwood has punched a player and been sacked?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Just s twitter rumour, no substance to it. Aaron Lennon has just put on his twitter feed that it is, and I quote,

Strong rumours on the web that ts is to be sacked!!
It is rumoured that he has punched a player, Dawson or naughton in the away dressing room at anfield after a 4-0 defeat

Ed anyone is this true??

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed008's Note - It's far too early to even find out info as most likely the squad is on their way back to London..

30 Mar 2014 21:24:25
Spurski how can you say "our squad is far superior to Liverpools so its the same old Tottenham."

Liverpool's squad is far superior than Tottenham's the only position which is debatable is goalkeeper, just because you stupidly spent £20-30m on a bunch of duds doesn't make them world beaters, that's why we're 1st and you're sh!t, sorry to logical fans like valley person but Spurski and The word chat so much nonsense.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Alot of you scousers were saying in the summer that we had brought some very good players, Lamela, Soldado and Eriksen espcially. They when there on form would walk into your team with Lloris, Vertonghen, Walker and Dembele. Your squad is quite weak tbh, you will struggle in Europe alongside the premiership.

Agree0 Disagree0

At least you won't have to worry about Champions League football spudski, your right (not) Soldado. Lamela and Erickson wouldn't get near LFC's team, you were a joke today and you should concentrate on Levy, Baldini and the rubbish they bought you, they wasted your money.

Agree0 Disagree0

I've never rated soldado or lamela neither of them would get in ahead of sas or coutinho, as for Johnson he's poor but not poorer than walker, dembele wouldn't get in ahead of hendo, Steve or coutinho

Agree0 Disagree0

Oh yeah Hendo, all you mugs have caned him for over a year. He's had an ok season in a team playing very well and now you're all touting him like he's the new Iniesta. Cuckoo.

Agree0 Disagree0

How could you not rate either of them? Look at their form in their previous clubs they are both quality.

Agree0 Disagree0

Soldado was doing it in a p!ss poor league, he failed at Madrid and he's failed on the international stage as for Lamela he was playing in a league which is absolutely abysmal, the pace of serie A is a joke.

Simmo just because a minority mock a player doesn't mean you should tarnish everyone with the same brush, I've always liked the lad even when he was at Sunderland, He doesn't complain he just get's on with the job and gives 110% that's all you can ask for.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry Plymouth Red but that is rubbish (not your personal opinion, that's fair enough)

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry Plymouth Red but that is rubbish, your personal opinion is fair enough but it wasn't the minority. Football fans are all fickle and the majority were lambasting Henderson heavily (or at least his signing if not him personally) and, a huge number thought Rodgers wasn't up to it. Suarez staying, a resurgent Gerrard, Sturridge in the mood and a system that has worked well have all come together at the right time. You've continued to spend money all along, not at Chelski and Man City levels but a much higher net spend than Spurs or Woolwich. Add into the mix no Europa League to pressure a small squad with fatigue, unrest and injuries has helped massively. Fair play for you lot sticking with it and getting down to the wire in this manner but let's not pretend that everybody on Merseyside was convinced all along because they weren't.

Agree0 Disagree0

Eriksen has 5 goals in 19 games, whilst Coutinho has 4 in 31 I think? Is that right? And that's with Coutinho in a much more settled 2nd season at the same team.

I think the squads are pretty close. My mixed team would be:

Lloris, Flannegan, Vertonghen, Skrtel, Walker, Sandro, Eriksen, Dembele, Sterling, Sturridge, Suarez

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry Plymouth red but Dembele is twice the player that Henderson is, Lamela is young and next season given a chance will be twice the player Coutino is, as for Eriksen, Coutino isn't fit to lace his boots!
Then we come to Johnson, wow, there's an accident waiting to happen every time someone attacks on his side . Full credit to you lot and Rodgers though . You have a manager who can man manage, is tactically aware, can change tactics if needed, and knows what substitutes are for . All the best for the rest of the season, but I still think you will finish below s****y and the Chavs but third is good for you!

Agree0 Disagree0

I believe your saying Dembele is twice in size to that of Henderson! On a serious note. let's just not compare everybody on ability that each posses but compare on what they do on the field. In that regard Henderson is three times player Dembele is. Simply because he works for the team. He ain't a Ronaldo but Good enough to clean up Dembele and your team over two legs! And yes most did not believe him but now we do. We learn from mistakes but your team does not. But I believe next season you will be top 3 if you keep the players!

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Mar 2014 21:23:47
Well boys I came on when we beat you 5-1 and was told we were average at best and you were missing a back 4 and you would be above us and we were lucky. so a few months later we wallop you again, so excuses this time please feel free to comment. tonymack25

Believable0 Unbelievable0

You're being too kind Tony mate, it was 5-0 not 5-1 ;) 9-0 to the mighty reds.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry Plymouth mate, you are right! still even giving them a goal I still don't get a response, yet after the first game, they were full of it, they have better players, only Suarez would get in there team, we were lucky etc. maybe they are right as we only won 4-0 today, so technically they have improved!

Agree0 Disagree0

Amazing really, you didn't actually have to create a 'real' goal today given the hapless defending, well lack of. Coutinho's was the only proper goal of Liverpool's creation and even then he was allowed to stroll through and stroke it in. With your scoring record you hardly needed such generosity and assistance. Spurs were worse than awful, they've packed up for the season and it's so obvious they're not bothered at all. Pathetic.

Agree0 Disagree0

Spurs pressed high and left space which was exploited by flanagan! So it was created rather than coutinho strolling through your defense!

Tim asks for fight, heart, spirit etc.
I think his actions and tactics has knocked it out of them.
The players are not playing for him as they know he won't be around in 2 months time. Deep down I think he knows too.
Y has he started watching from the stands relaxed and left cr on the side lines. I think he has lost all that he wants from the players as he knows his time is short over and it has spilled on to the players.
Sigs and benteleb did nothing in the middle but he left our beast sandro on the bench with dumbele, y?
IMO we have too many of the same style of players and nothing different or special.
1 man for me that's Martinez of Everton!
He knows the premier league and plays fast penetrating football.
Lvg is quality but is use to having world class players around him so that's what worries me if we get him

Believable0 Unbelievable0

30 Mar 2014 21:12:40
Surely the most worrying thing is, from what he says, Sherwood is picking the players he thinks he can count on, the ones with most guts?! Please no, otherwise we are looking rotten to the core.
Vertonghen is a bottle-job who is not going to be here next August, he has looked disinterested for weeks and did not fancy it at all today.
Naughton and Rose are sub-sub-sub-standard, please would people stop debating that, they are not good enough and it's proven week in week out. It takes something for me to prefer Walker and BAE (the latter of whom I pretty much detest as brainless in the extreme). Dawson can have all the heart he wants, he's done as far as we're concerned, he is slow and not good enough against decent opposition.
Kaboul - not enough football in years, not reading the game well enough, gone back to his casual streak as well.
Bentaleb - give me strength, poor kid as being strung out by Sherwood as most fans are sick of him when he's not done a lot wrong but now is not the time to be chucking him in as the first name on the team-sheet, it's looking more like breaking him than making him. Lennon, gone to pot since last injury, mind you, we hardly play to his strength and he has Naughton behind him.
Chadli, winning me over more and more, hasn't had a load of football this season but, can see him trying to do the right things that will hopefully start to come off.
Eriksen - hope he stays but must wonder what he's done signing for us!
Sigurdsson - is what he is, a good squad player.
Soldado - showing touches of class, has had a rotten few months overall including a lot of bad luck and now he's playing for a shot team. A bit worrying that his injury could be one of those innocuous jumps and landing that ends up with a 6month cruciate problem.

New manager needed, new defence needed and we still only have 2 strikers (no, Kane does not count). If only we had £100m!!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The problem for me is that too often I see managers not realising that there is more to a player's game than just what position of the field they tend to hang around in. It is like they think that all players are equal beyond a Championship Manager style position allocation.

Not all strikers are the same, and this goes for all positions on the field. If you don't play to people's strengths then they are going to look terrible through no fault of their own. If you ran a business and hired a creative person to work in marketing and then asked them to only run the financial side of the business then it wouldn't be their fault if they messed things up it would be yours.

This is the problem we're facing, and I feel sorry for some players that are judged overly harshly because they are asked to play to their weaknesses not their strengths.

Bentaleb is not a holding midfielder. His anticipation is poor, he is often behind the game leaving central gaps, and his pressing is weak. It's not his fault Sherwood asks him to play there. Give him a more passing based role and he'd thrive. We have Sandro for the destroyer stuff.

Dawson is slow, but you don't need your CBs to be that quick. They need to be tall, decent at jumping, and physical. But mostly they must be able to read a game and have good positioning and teamwork. Dawson is very good at those things, but if you ask him to play a high line he'll be exposed. Chelsea have Terry and Cahill at CB - both are slow as treacle but it works beause they are not asked to play half way up the pitch.

Lennon is not a speed merchant, he is an acceleration merchant. His dribbling is not strong, because his game is to go from a near stationary ball to beating a man 1v1 by acceleration and agility. He knocks it past them and drops his shoulder and is gone before they can react. But we give him the ball on the half way line. When was the last time he was given a chance to do what he is good at? Can't blame him for not being productive if he is not being played to his strengths. His final ball has always been an issue, but this year he's not even getting that far. And if teams push a midfielder over to create a 2v1 against him then that leaves a gap elsewhere that can be exploited but we never do that either. Lennon is the best player in the PL for being able to draw 2 people to cover him but we never use that gap.

Soldado is a fox on the box style poacher and finisher. So why lob the ball up to him as a target man? Why ask him to work the channels so that he is having to provide opportunities rather than finish them? It's no wonder he looks crap this year. It is like when Torres scored for fun in a Liverpool team that played the ball into space behind him and then he looked crap playing for a Chelsea team that played it to his feet.

Chadli is good on the left and Eriksen is good central. So of course we play them the wrong way around.

The players are plenty good enough at what they do well. Not their fault if the manager cannot see it.

Agree0 Disagree0

Wulf, agree with you on most of that but you know what I am going to say . Daws is past it, whether we play the high line or not! Yes he is good in the air, and at times his anticipation is good, but his timing, tackling are terrible, his passing is a joke and if a forward runs at him with the ball he is beaten!
Bentaleb, is another story . I agree he is being played wrong but then if he isn't played there, where could he play? He isn't as good as Eriksen or Dembele, so if they both play, no position for him! Totally agree about Lennon, Soldado, Chadli and Eriksen though . We need a manager who plays the players in their proper positions and to their strengths!

Agree0 Disagree0

Haha. Yes I agree that he is past it for us as a starting XI player. I'd like to see someone better coming in with him moving to a backup player (think he is worth keeping for rotation and continuity of the squad). I mean we'd prob only get 3-4m for him anyhow so I doubt we could replace him as a bench warmer. I'd still rather play him than Kaboul tho.

For Bentaleb I'd say he'd work well alongside Paulinho if we were to play a 4-4-2 style system. But yes if we play a midfield 3 DPC style then I don't think he should play. Well that said he covers Left Back more than Rose does so maybe there? ;-)

I mean yesterday we had the chance to play Sandro, Eriksen, and Dembele centrally. That's 2 of the strongest and 1 of the quickest (tempo wise) players in the PL. Now that would have been a good scrap in the middle!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed008's Note - I remember when Sherwood took over he said he would play players in their proper positions play old school 442 left wingers on the left and right wingers on the right that lasted all of what 2-3 games? With the squad available i think the best formation to go with is 433 Sandro,Dembele and Paulinho as a midfield 3 with 1 given the license as a box-to box midfielder something that's lacking atm, Eriksen has to play wide left because quite simply their isn't any good wingers at the club Lennon plays good for 2-3 games gets injured you never see him for the rest of the season at the level, same thing can be said about Townsend has 1-2 good games and then he's being compared to Gareth Bale who's playing alongside players like Alonso,Ronaldo,Di Maria think about that one.. Oh and your best winger has been buried alive somewhere and until Sherwood is sacked won't reveal where he's at..
Personally think Tottenham Hotspur has to have a major clearout again in terms of players, staff and Levy really needs to commit to a plan of where to take this club because it seems to be 1 year 1 step forward and then the next 2 steps back i know a lot of Spurs fans who are just gutted of how bad this season has been and for me this is a team who be playing Champions League football already and up there like Liverpool challenging for the Premiership Title and yet it's back to step 1..
Sorry for the long post just had to get my point across..

Excellent posts. I think we can still look at the sides above us and see teams that would improve with some of our players. Woolwich would love at least Lloris, Vertonghen, Sandro, Eriksen, Soldado and Ade (!, yes forgetting it's Ade, just the player they need), Everton the same, Liverpool don't need the strikers but could chuck in Dembele. Bit different at Chelski and Sheiky mind you but they are over-flowing with options and money generally. No reason why we shouldn't be up there, get a man with a plan (and a plan b) and it can happen again.

Agree0 Disagree0

Wulf, true we would be lucky to get 3 bob for him unless it was Arry, so good idea ( did I say that )!
Ed008, yes Sherwood did make some major promises that last 2-3 games . I know we don't have a left winger but Eriksen is wasted there plus he strays all over the place . Perhaps we should use the diamond formation with the beast at the back, Lennon and Chadli on the sides and Dembele at the front, plat Eriksen behind Soldado . But play to the players strengths, and put the balls into the channels so the players can use their speed and acceleration, force the other defenders on to the back foot for once, play with speed . I wouldn't play Paulinho, not because he is rubbish but he slows everything down so much!

Thought last week corner had been turned this week, could not believe what I saw looked like 11 zombies running about, did not recognize them look lost a shambles and a total mess, something sadly wrong in the club and with the team players and there mentality, vertoghen new it was coming went off did not want to play . Just lost for what's going on this is not spurs at all . Good job for avb at the start or we would be heading for relegation, with current form . Ts gone for me give freund reigns make him no2 to van gal .

Don't know what to say anymore ( that will make lots of people happy )
Lets hope for a clear out of the rubbish, TS AND DL as well hopefully, and look forward to another year of rebuilding! You never know, we could be trying for top four in the 2018 season so better keep my season ticket!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

30 Mar 2014 19:20:50
I'm so shocked when we got rid of avb that a more experienced manager wasn't put in place. This is a very bad choice from mr levy and his board.
I heard ts say he gave his transfer list to mr levy, I hope he is backed for next season OR a more experienced man is put in place WITH the backing
No point getting a manager to work with this lot as there is nothing there

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - There will be LvG arriving in the summer - although interestingly there is interest in Mauricio Pochettino from one influential person at the club.}

30 Mar 2014 18:07:21
I'm absolutely fed up with watching us gifting goals to other teams.

It's hard enough that they're better than us. But we should at least make them work for their goals.

Enough is enough.

I want my football club back. Levy out.

3 - 0. Nobody on the team wants to win bad enough.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

This team went to Anfield expecting to loose. Once the first goal went it the final result was never in doubt.

We are seriously naive tactically with too many players starting that are either not committed or simply not good enough.

dawson comes on 23 min 1 min later he gives the ball to suarez to score he is the worst defender in the league no wonder king had to retire early he was carrying him aswell also another crap performance as usual this is the worst spurs sides I have seen and I have seen some bad ones over the years if someone give me a free ticket I would refuse to go the fans should boycott the club they don't deserve our SUPPORT

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Umm are you mad? Don't we support our team no matter what? Were you around for the Ramos 'era'. Liverpool are an amazing side hence why they currently sit top of the league. Don't embarress yourself mate.

Welcome to a battering! we will be lucky not to lose by 4 or 5 today! why is sherwood playing a high line against suarez, sturridge and sterling. suicide!

Also bentaleb again "protecting" the back 4 lol

Be glad when this game is over

Believable0 Unbelievable0

30 Mar 2014 15:47:15
Just seen team sheet, and Siggy and Bentaleb are our midfield two, WTF! Sandro on the bench with Dembele as well . I can't wait for this season to be over! What is up with TS? Where does his love of Bentaleb come from?
We could get absolutely steamrollered through the middle . Is TS advertising himself for the Norwich job or what?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Add to that our bad luck and Liverpools good luck we have no chance. No closing down quick or shape or passion. Sherwood is a joke.

Agree0 Disagree0

Forgot to say, our squad is far superior to Liverpools so its the same old Tottenham.

Agree0 Disagree0

We are a disgrace, pathetic defending and gifting goals with school-boy errors AGAIN. Vertonghen is a bottler, Dawson is a cart horse and enough is enough with him. Kaboul is being as casual and brainless as he used to be in his first spell, too long out of the game.
Sandro hasn't been great lately but Bentaleb!?!?! Give me strength. I'm not blaming Sherwood entirely for things but for Bentaleb he is fully responsible for promoting and picking him no matter what. He's just average at best for now, even Livermore is a better standard at the moment!

Agree0 Disagree0

Simmo, I was going to say the same about Kaboul he lookslike the error prone player who we sold to Portsmouth.
