The chosen one don't rate lukaku and neither do I like the sun only shines once in a while goes hiding, rather have Hernandez from Man u interesting Everton have no money so wonder if they have had to sell stones to us, or McCarthy to Man U, made money on fellani but have little to spend . Will sell hope its stones to the mighty Spurs .

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Hernandez, away from home against Stoke, Hull etc, in the formation we will be playing this season. Give me strength.

Agree0 Disagree0

Think they used the fellani money for lukaku and carnt see them selling stones to anyone but hope I'm wrongOu

Agree0 Disagree0

Bobbybox,

Comparing yourself to Jose now?

Not many proven strikers left!!

Trying to remain optimistic.

Agree1 Disagree0

Ha, no spurs players would get in evertons team

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't rate Lukaku much either. Terrible first touch. But Hernandez is no better than Soldado, and I think you boys made a mistake signing him. He's only a finisher, a poacher. I think a striker has to have more than that in the systems played my most clubs now. It's usually one up top. He needs to be able to offer to the team and bring players in to the game in the final third as much as score.

I'm really annoyed we didn't try for Lukaku. He's too good for Everton and probably us but we at least could have offered him more money and better players to play with! Gutted.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

J you have just taken the words out of my mouth I came on here to write a similar thing.
Everton are known not to spend big money, however bill k has backed his manager and are ready to stump up 24 million pounds for lukaku.
My guess is we have made an offer of 2 million with holtby going the other way. A levy offer

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree, would have taken us up a level.

Up a level your having a laugh, like I have said lukaku is like the sun only shines now and again goes hiding as mourihnio knows only to well . Will be good for a few games, then will disappear for parts of the season up a level nah! C.O.Y.S.

Agree1 Disagree1

Bobby box,

Adebayor & Kane. Enough said.

Agree0 Disagree1

We paid the same amount for a 28 year old that can only score from the spot. Sorry I dnt buy the fact we never used saldado to his strengths the boy is shyt lukaku IMO is better and will get better

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm reading all these lukaku and griezman comments and people moaning that we didn't sign them. Now how do we know we didn't attempt to sign them? How do we know they just didn't want to come to us? I read some of these comments and it as though some of you expect every player available wants to join spurs. We may have tried for these players. Sometimes Levy penny pinches and sometimes they might if just not been interested but most of the time, it's all just media BS.

Spurs is a step down from everton

Agree0 Disagree0

Spurs fans are by far the most deluded in the league, it's laughable!

Agree0 Disagree0

I doubt any of you will agree, but I think Everton have a better first 11 than spurs at this moment in time. I also think they have a better manager.

Lukaku also gone. WTF. I hope we are pulling Benteke out the bag. We seriously need another striker 'proven'

Along with two central defenders.

#leavingitlateagain

Believable1 Unbelievable2

Benteke you wish. We are trying to sign an inured striker

Agree0 Disagree0

Mrg. Shall we have this conversation again at the end of the season when he's netted goals in a below average team?

Agree1 Disagree0

Mate I hope your right but Will he come back the same player and how much will the saints want?

Agree0 Disagree0

Benteke is currently a Villa player.

I wonder is Southamptons unwillingness to sell the two boys a reaction to Poch leaving them. They appear open to selling their players until we got involved?

Believable1 Unbelievable2

30 Jul 2014 17:09:37
The fact our leaders decided to wait until they already sold 5 players; cashing 100m; might explain their "unwillingness"!

It is hard to negotiate a good deal now they would rather keep the players

Agree1 Disagree1

We're not renowned for being quick out the blocks for transfers.

Hope they don't sell Rodriguez to us there is much better than him to get.

I read on here the other day that Levy has one or two more seasons to get success on the field or he'll be replaced by ENIC. That will be music to some of your ears as there is quite a few that want Levy out.

My question is, would my fellow Spurs supporters rather a poor season and Levy out or top 4 and Levy stay?

Personally, I would prefer the latter.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Sorry Kieran, but I will believe top 4 and levy stay when I see it. If poch fails (I don't think he will) levy must be held responsible for his ineptness to back the manager for the good of the club rather than that of his pocket. If the miracle you described does occur it will most likely be when the new stadium is built. Whether levy or poch is still at the lane then is a different debate entirely!

Redeemer,
I believe top 4 would be a miracle too. I was just wandering that if you could choose would you a) want top 4 and levy to stay
or
b) sacrifice top 4 if you knew it would mean levy out.
I'm not suggesting we will finish top 4. I think 5th or 6th again.

Why didn't we sign Suarez when we had the chance?

I know the whole Suarez saga is now ancient history, but people on this site have consistently blamed Harry for us missing out on him. However, I recently stumbled across these two news items, which tell a different story:

Guardian: May 2011

Harry Redknapp has revealed that he considered signing Luis Suarez in January but opted against making a bid after being told by scouts that the Uruguayan was not up to the grade.

Daily Mail: March 2014

Ruud Gullit has revealed that Tim Sherwood turned down the chance to sign Luis Suarez when the striker was at Ajax.

According to Gullit, Sherwood went on a scouting mission to see the Uruguayan in Holland before he moved to Merseyside and spurned the opportunity to buy him.

They came to watch him, ' the former Chelsea player said.

'I met Sherwood together with Les Ferdinand, they were Harry Redknapp's assistants at the time and were also his scouts.

'They asked me all kinds of questions about Suarez, so I just point blank said: "You have to snap him up, without any hesitation, in a heartbeat."

'"Well, we're not sure, " they said whilst they actually watched him play.

'That's a huge mistake, if you ask me. Afterwards they said to me: "Well, we might have got it wrong."'

Personally, I don't think that Sherwood's evaluation of Suarez made any difference. Even if we had started negotiations for him, we would have been out of the picture as soon as Liverpool expressed interest. From his perspective, they were five times winners of the European Cup and Champions League while we hadn't won a major trophy in his lifetime.

No one is to blame. He was never coming to us.

What are you on about? We looked at Suarez way before Liverpool and at the time were much better than Liverpool. Players like Siggurdson and Dempsey chose us and Suarez probably would of too.

Redknapp said that Suarez was no better than what we already have and that was Pavlychenko, Defoe and Crouch I think. Redknapp, Sherwood and Broomfield are to blame.

I am not saying anything. I am just reporting what other people have said. Both reports support the view that Harry was relying on the opinions of his scouts (principally Sherwood and Ferdinand).

I have just done another search and come up with this blog from November 2011:

Back in May this year it was reported that the Tottenham Hotspur manager, Harry Redknapp, had been interested in Luis Suarez before Liverpool signed him but had been told by the club's scouts that the Uruguayan forward "wasn't up to it" and that he "couldn't cope in the Premier League."

Cue great mirth at Redknapp's expense, despite the fact that what he actually said was: "We kept looking at Suarez but people thought he couldn't play up front as a striker; they said he's like Rafa [van der Vaart] and you can't have him and Rafa or you'd have two players who want to drop deep, so that was the problem."

Speaking more recently, ahead of Tottenham's meeting with Liverpool in September, Redknapp reflected that Suarez was "a player we probably should have took, " though he raised the problem of the asking price (in excess of £30 million/$47M at the time). "We thought he played a bit like van der Vaart . we were looking for a target man, " he explained, slightly ruefully.

This blog also supports the view that Redknapp was relying on his scouts and had good solid reasons for not going after Suarez.

Of course, that turned out to be the wrong decision, but it is easy to be wise after the event.

Consider this: if we missed out on him, what about PSG, Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Arsenal, Man City, Man United, Real Madrid, Barcelona, AC Milan or Juventus. They were all in a much better position to take a punt on him than we were and if any of them had shown an interest he would never have given us a moment's consideration. Then consider all the high-priced flops we we didn't sign either.

Let's give Harry a break.

As I remember it; the explanation give by Redknapp was that he sent Sherwood and Les Ferdinand to assess Sureaz. They reported he would struggle in the Premier League.

The rest is history

Will Spurs buy a central back or a striker this summer? What happened with Bony?
