Heard a rumour from someone normally reliable saying that baldini was in Valencia to discuss a deal to bring multiple players, Valencia have a good squad, not just solado but the likes canales, rami, aly cissokho (spelling?) eds any ideas if this is true and which players might be on the way?
COYS {Ed030's Note - Well the rumours are Soldado mate and if it's true and he is having discussions I would expect it would be about Soldado. }

I believe a Torres deal is not to far around the corner. Wages will be an issue tho. But with £24mill spent on 2 great players I cannot see us now going for a £20mill plus striker. Up next I can see more like a demba ba £12-15mill. Michu £15mill - loic remy £8-11mill. Coming to the lane. But would not be surprised if our line up consisted of no strikers as bale would be the floater role.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Apparently Baldini is in Valencia now trying to sort out a deal for Soldado (£25m). Torres is NEVER going to happen. Chelski will want too much of the £50m paid for him and his wages are too high for us.

Agree0 Disagree0

I still think dzeko is a reasonable target. Would work well in our game and wages are possible.

Ed's any idea if he is a target or if it would be possible given that s***ty have already bought other strikers and knocked him further down the pecking order?

Mk1 {Ed001's Note - I believe he is available, though I am not sure his wages would be that achievable, considering he is on in excess of 100k a week. He might well be happy to take a pay cut in return for first team football though.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't want them to be tight but £20m is enough for Soldado really. Probably going to get pushed north of that but would hope the deal can be done at £22m or less. The thing is he won't have any re-sale value but if we get in the Champions League this and/or next season then he pays for himself. That could've been done for much cheaper in the past two seasons but we are where we are now. As long as Kaboul can stay fit then we're then in good shape and can't complain as long as Bale and the key squad members all stay.

I don't think the Arsenal fan below was gloating (no club has suffered more from the 'money no object' raiders). He is just drawing the same conclusions as I am.

We have signed a tall, speedy, goal-scoring midfield player who is effective down both wings and through the middle.

Does that sound like an addition to our squad, or a replacement for Bale?
KM

PS: People on here think Mr G is pessimistic. He should take my correspondence course.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Vertonghen will definitely not play left back on a regular basis. He is a stand in left back

Agree0 Disagree0

Like I said, it's just a bit of bant fueled by a healthy rivalry. although in all seriousness I do think it's not an unreasonable conclusion to come to, that bale might be off.

Agree0 Disagree0

But it's a wise man that has Bales potential replacement in camp at least one season before Bale likely departs.

Agree0 Disagree0

Is that why we got modders replacement before he left? Or did dembele come after?

and when we sold berba? did defoe/keane come before or after?

and when we sold carrick. did zakora come before or after?

You know nothing about levy and he does not meet your definition of a wise man. Take your nonsense elsewhere

Agree0 Disagree0

Perhaps the value of AVB and Baldini is where the wisdom comes from? Did that ever occur to you? Nope I guessed as much.

Agree0 Disagree0

Re: “Is that why we got Modder's replacement before he left?”

I am not sure what point you are making.

In an ideal world you have replacements lined up long before you lose players, but that is rarely possible. If you are thinking of replacing top quality you can’t have top quality just sitting on the bench waiting.

That is the situation in the cases you cited.

After beating off suitors for a year, Modric was finally allowed to leave and Dembele immediately joined. The two transfers were clearly linked: if one happened the other happened. The same is obviously true of Carrick and Zakora, whose transfers were also linked.

Berbatov was different and illustrates the problem of thinking too far ahead. United started tapping him up in 2007 and Bent was signed as insurance against losing him.

Berbatov actually stayed another year and Keane was his best partner. Bent and Defoe both got frustrated at not playing more. Defoe was eventually sold in January 2008.

Then we lost unexpectedly lost Keane after Liverpool made a ridiculous bid for him. Giovani was signed as a bright young prospect who might eventually replace him. Pavlyuchenko was sounded out as well.

Finally, United caved in and met our asking price for Berbatov, which immediately triggered the move for Pavlyuchenko, who was signed to partner Bent.

The Bent Pavlyuchenko partnership never worked and we were soon in a mess. With relegation staring us in the face, we re-signed Defoe to get a few goals. He immediately got injured so we were back to square one and had to re-sign Keane as well.

I see nothing to particularly applaud or deplore in all this. It is just typical of the compromises and contingencies of managing a football club.

why does everyone put rose as our left back when they make next years team.
no way can he be our left back if we want top 4, he can't defend, none of the top teams wiil have him as there left back, wing backs are very important on how many goals you let in.
if we don't sign a ledt back and there is no ekotto.
are back 4 will be

walker kaboul dawson vertonghan

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Lorekin,

You slat Rose who had an exceptional season in a poor sunderland team last year and then put our best center half at LB, I think every spurs fan knows rose will be given the chance to prove himself at LB next season and if he fails, we still have BAE and Naughton. Big Jan will stay at center half and if I am not mistaken (Eds help me out here) I think Chadli can also play at LB although he is more naturally an attacking midfielder. {Ed001's Note - I don't know of him playing at left back, but I haven't seen a lot of him so might just have missed him there.}

I just hope Lennon has been working on his shooting this summer especially if he's being deployed in a 433!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

So, with Chadli signed (subject to medical etc) that gives us the natural width on the left, so that Dembele, Holtby & Sig aren't going to be playing out of position while Bale plays through the middle. So if as we think, AVB will go for the 433 we could be looking at

Lloris
Walker, Kaboul, Vert, Rose
Paulinho, Sandro, Dembele
Lennon, Bale, Chadli.

Subs
Friedel
BAE (If he isn't sold) or Naughton
Dawson
Holtby
Sig
Dempsey
Defoe

However, how do people feel about:

Lloris
Walker, Kaboul, Vert, Rose
Sandro, Paulinho
Lennon, Bale, Chadli
Soldado

I know this would mean dropping Dembele to the bench, but it gives us that out and out striker and let's Bale come from deep which served us so well last year.

Either way, not a bad squad if you ask me.

Dom

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think we should do a 433 with a top 3 of lennon or chaldi, soldado (hopefully), balewhere they perhaps all interchange

Agree0 Disagree0

I think he wants a 433 with bale being on the right attack hopefully a new striker and chadli on the left.
This drops lennon to the bench as he isn't really a goal scorer and on a 433 all front 3 need to score.
also I think that they want the new striker as they want someone scoring 20+ a season plus bale scoring 20+ and not pushing bale to the striker role as none of the other wide attackers we have will get the 20+ return.
A front three of bale soldado chadli would be pretty awesome with dembele behind and sandro and paulinho behind him!

arsenal fan here in no way am I coming in peace.
with the announcement of chadil and rumours of real madrid agreeing a £68m fee with you, I think it may be time to wave bale away.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

At the same time as you wave higuain hello,,,, oh wait a minute. What happened there?
Bales move is just paper talk, never going to happen
Just like higuain, Suarez or Rooney to you lot pmsl.

Agree0 Disagree0

Woah, so jovetic was apparently in the bag, now he's at city
Higuan was 'so close' now seems far
Rooney saurez still far off

Your club lies to you to get fans excited to rebuy season tickets mate

Agree0 Disagree0

It's going to look good fabregas and van persie at united

Agree0 Disagree0

Desperate are you to see Bale leave lil goner. Well get over it Bale will stay at least one more year. Squad is shaping up nicely unlike at your club. Higuain staying at real Suarez to go to Real or stay with scousers. Worry about your club and we will focus on ours.

Ant

Agree0 Disagree0

They prob do lie to them to get them to buy season tickets and they lap it up but their place is still like a library.

Agree0 Disagree0

It makes me laugh how this gooner come on here all guns blazing when none of his statement has any sort of truth behind it?

Get back to class kid!

Agree0 Disagree0

Another worried Gooner on our site. Why don't you glory hunters just start supporting spurs now so it's not so obvious when ARSEnal are a mid table side.

Agree0 Disagree0

I could use so many different come backs but all I really have to say is champions league ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

Champions League is just a cash-cow for you, you've had 15-16years of it and not even won any trophy for the past 8-9 of them. Nice new stadium which only has a chance of seeing the Emirates Cup lifted (and didn't you even lose that last year!).
Simmo

Agree0 Disagree0

It's funny cause i'm not happy with way it's going at arsenal (it's sh!t) but we are still better than you, and I don't think bringing up our lack of recent success is a good idea. if anyone is taking this too seriously then please don't its just a bit of bant :)

saint arsenal

Agree0 Disagree0

As a seasoned spurs fan, I need to applaud the last comment from the gooner.
He could of gone for the trappy route (like most) but chose a proper adult response. Hats off to you (as much as I dislike some of your fans :))
You are right, banter needs to be banter. Fair play.
COYS

Agree0 Disagree0

You're one point better than us and you celebrated like you had finally won something when you limped to a one point advantage on the last day of the season. I'm ok with banter because we're finally more consistent than we've ever been and you lot are totally unpredictable and been on the slide so it's actually a fairly even rivalry. Many are sick of Levy leaving the squad slightly short or mis-balanced so you lot must be fuming at your decline.
Simmo

Agree0 Disagree0

Nobody's taking this Gooner seriously but banter goes both ways.

Agree0 Disagree0

Arsenal fans won the right to gloat last season because they finished above us only 4 more weeks left to suffer it then bring it on!

With Chadli now on board, which IMO is a fantastic signing especially at the reported £7m. It got me wondering about what formation AVB will play and whether or not a striker will actually be signed. With Chadli capable of playing left, right or through the middle, I think AVB will look at 4-3-3 and deploy Bale in more of a CF role with Chadli and Lennon either side of a front 3 with Dembele, Paulinho and Sandro in the middle. This also allows AVB to revert 4-2-3-1 with Sandro and Paulinho behind a three of Lennon, Dembele and Chadli and Bale up top on his own, with the likes of Siggy, Dempsey, Townsend, Parker, Thudd all acting as cover. Would love to see an out and out goal scorer come in but am now wondering with the attacking midfielders we are signing if striker is the priorty right now.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I would love to see Parker, Thudd, Siggy and Dempsey sold! Not needed at all!

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd keep Siggy, he improved no end, decent enough touch, gets stuck in, crops up with a goal or two, decent squad player.
