in the wake of all this modric exit talk, I thought I'd offer my perspective. I would imagine we could count city out, although they have the money, modric does not fit into their system of 4231, which needs either primarily defensive midfielders, or attacking midfielders. Modric is at his best when he is right in the middle of the park, not overly defensive or attacking, which is why, what with his dynamism, he'd be better suited to united.
But he also probably won't go to united, because I believe that they simply do not have the money any more to pay what levy will inevitably want for him to sell to another club in the prem, what with glazer debt and the amount they spent last summer. Factor in the fact that they had an early CL exit, and didn't win any trophies this year, then I'd imagine they wouldn't be able to justify spending that much on just one player, who is not even a goalscorer, because, as was proved with berba, and carroll, and torres, it is strikers who will always command the biggest fees.
If chelsea fail to make the CL, then we can obviously count them out, because I don't think modric is so much a mercenary that he would go to a team outside the top 4 just for money. Obviously if they do win the thing then that changes the whole situation, and I'd imagine not even dan levy could keep him out of abramoviches hands in that situation (he'd rob them blind with a transfer fee though)
Having discounted all the domestic clubs, one thinks about possible foreign clubs. He wouldn't get into, or be needed at barca or madrid, and I'm not sure that PSG or Anzhi provide suitable 'big challenges' that he is looking for in the french and russian leagues. However, both of those teams, along with Malaga are likely to be in the CL next season, so it is entirely possible that the CL + enormous wages he'd get could sway him that way.
So, in my mind, there are only a few places I can realistically see him going this summer. If we fail to get CL, then he's probably off to Chelsea locally which would be a disaster, or anyone of Malaga, PSG or Anzhi, or potentially a rich italian club like AC Milan, where it would still be bad to lose a player of his quality, but nowehere near as bad given he would not be in direct contention helping our rivals, and we would get a substantial transfer fee. If we do get CL, then I can genuinly see him staying, as provided we show intent in the transfer market (Levy, Vertonghen) I think we can take our progression one step further next season and really tie up a CL place for the future. I see some of u r just prancing around the real issue by talking about transfers. The real issue and transfer that all Spurs fans should hope for is the transfer/sacking of Harry Redknap. Because of his lack of strategy and hence his ignorance about players to bring in, as he has no system. Frankly, he has caused Spurs not be in the hunt for the title forthe last 2 seasons. Why, because luck and the individual brilliance of our players can only carry a team so far. If you disbelieve, look at the matches again strategically and you will see my point. No doubt we have talented players but we need acoach with a good attacking strategy who knows which players to bring in to complement the team - it is not Harry if we want to win trophies. Possible targets should be Brendon Rodgers, Roberto Martinex, Bielsa, Frank Riikjard. Bottom line, it does not matter which players we bring in, if Harry is the manager, we will not be winning anything and that should be our ambition as Spurs fans.

I have never heard such drival. HR does not have the greatest tactical/strategical brain. But Rodgers/Martinez really. you go on about winning trophies and then name 2 very mediocore managers who have no real trophies to there CVs, 1 who has managed in the EPL for 1 year and another who is struggling to break into the top 12 of EPL, neither of these 2 have managed BIG players or big clubs or big transfer kittys, good managers at small teams do not make good managers and big teams (Gerry Francis, Jaques Santini, Juando Ramos, Big Sam @ Newcastle to name a few) if HR goes and I think at this stage if he does it would be a mistake, we would need a proven manager (Capello, Benitez, Pep, Hiddink) if we keep HR and add quality we will be in the hunt again next season. This season has to be seen for what it was, we wanted a top 4 spot and got it. Forget about being 12points clear in 3rd we achieved what we set out for. What with the court case and england farce let us be happy with where we are. like i say add 3-4 quality players and HR a new contract and bring on next season.
Good luck to Bayern and Blackpool today!!

Trouble is Arry with a cheque book . Heard from a mate who lives nr ' the lane ' that he saw joe cole there on Thursday . This is what worries me with Arry , let him run the team , but let someone else do the transfers , ( maybe the tea lady would do a better job )

Im not sure why there are ANY comments regarding transfers, in or out, when we dont even know if we are playing Champions league football yet.
Redknapp is a tactical dunce, cannot change games when needed to and was central to us throwing away a comfortable third place. All arguments about hoping for and getting a top four finish at the start of last season is utter bull and capitulation. FACT: Harry rightly took the plaudits when we were flying and chasing the top two. FACT: Harry should also take the flack for us throwing away a comfortable third place ,leaving us to rely on Bayern Munich to get us a Champions league spot. Does nobody get that?
Perhaps all the reasons the F.A didnt want him are also many of the reasons why he will never take us to the next level and exactly the reason he couldnt address our huge loss of form, which has left us hoping.
No, Im not happy where we are!! We could have done much, much better!! Sorry, I set my sights a tad higher nowdays, we have, up until now, one of the best squads in the premiereship, have spent massively over the last five years and have a loyal support that is the envy of most of our rivals ( think Library....)so, no, im not happy with us throwing away a huge points advantage, not happy with Harry who seemed impotent and unable to stop the slide and, no, im not confident that he will sign the kind of players that we need to progress. If you really think that Levy thinks any different, expect bids for Carlton Cole and the like, you know, Harrys kinda player...

Possible Modric replacements:

Optimistic (unlikely):
Kaka
Ganso
Hazard

Quality realistic:
Strootman
Eriksen
Hamsik
Elm
Younes Belhanda (more attacking)
Montolivo (more defensive)

Probable (The height of redknapps ambition):
Dembele
Seedorf
Dempsey
other...

Personally i'd love one of Stroot, Eriksen or Hamsik. who would you guys vote for? feel free to add to the list?

Believable1 Unbelievable1

All three on the optimistic list are too attacking (also Kaka is pretty much past it and Ganso is unproven in Europe). Hamsik and Dempsey are both too attacking as well. I think Eriksen would be incredible but I don't see it happening. I'd like Bruno Soriano at Villareal, a deep-lying playmaker, and Dembele who is quality we could play 4-2-3-1 (bruno and sandro holding, with 3 from bale, lennon, vdv, and dembele in front.

Montolivo has already joined A.C. Millan. I would choose Strootman or Eriksen out of your list, but my favourite would be Deigo from Wolfburg(went on loan to atletico madrid)

Why do you think we'll need modric replacements? if we get cl im not so sure he'll leave

Agree0 Disagree0

We are intrested in Hazard and modric isn't leaving so he isn't really a replacment! but i agree with either Eriksen or Strrotman and they wouldn't cause too much.

Oh dear Oh dear,

Lets be honest any transfers happening at the lane won't even begin until sunday morning dependant on what happens with chelski and CL finals. and then I would imagine until HR and DL sort out whether or not HR is staying. So all these so called transfers coming and going are quite humerous to say the least. still i suppose it gives the gooners something to talk about cos they won't be doing to much business. sooo sad that they feel the need to come on our site and spout rubbish. Who ever we sign and whoever leaves will be for the best interest for the team in Levy we trust.
