Whoa! Significant developments in the Bale transfer saga.

tv are now reporting that there is more than one interested suitor in the Welsh flyer. Could this de-rail Real Madrid's arrogant pursuit of Bale, or is this just another smokescreen from Levy & Co to eke out every last drop of cash from Perez's grimy little fingers?

If it is legitimate, it can really only be a handful of the usual suspects - PSG, Monaco, Man United or City - and you would have to think that for them to enter the fray at this late stage, they would have to be offering something in the region of £120m to usurp the (alleged) Madrid bid.

On the one hand, if it is indeed true, IMO that would strengthen Levy's position no end, and may even encourage him to go back to Madrid to insist upon the inclusion of the likes of Morata to sweeten the current deal, or else we will go elsewhere. Might put us in a great situation.

However, and my personal feeling is that it is what I suggested above, that it is all just a smokescreen to panic Real into upping the offer. Unfortunately, player power in football, or should I say soccer, is different to say, the US sports, where if a player is traded, his ownership rights are transferred to the successful team. Bale could quite simply put the kibosh on any potential rival deal by refusing to sign on the dotted line, and you can be sure that Madrid would be having a less than subtle word in his ear if such an eventuality came to fruition.

But we will see, and one way or another, the situation will have to be resolved. No matter which way it goes, Spurs will have benefitted to the tune of at least £85m. A staggering amount of money and a phenomenal return on the original £6m we paid for Bale. How Southampton must rue taking Levy's £2m to quash that sell-on clause. Ouch!

As for the final touches to our own window, my personal favourites would be to see Ericksen, Alderweireld and Lamela into the Lilywhite fold. Do your stuff Levy, Baldini and AVB! You've played a masterful game of transfer poker so far. One more week of no blinking at the table and we could seriously be set.

To the post who suggested abstinence on my part, you could be right. However, the rumours on the go today would seem to suggest that I wasn't far off the mark, with Spurs allegedly demanding £125m to sell Bale to United. Keep the faith friend and put it down as poetic license on my part. Which actually wasn't far off. BigBird72 COYS
